the question continually gets shifted when it is brought up to the administration. I agreed that it was a non story. However, with three months left on that deal and no natural breaks in the season to sign it, this seems like more than just a matter of fixing the fine print on the contract.

It cannot be a matter of money. I think Ricketts would let him name his own price and terms. The indecision has to be on Theo's side and this kind of wavering about what seems to be a no brainer decision does not bode well.

Not in the least. I'm sure there are fine details to get sorted out...and Theo can only benefit from waiting. But the deal is getting done.

According to the Sox fans on the board that have been very worried about the Cubs front office situation the Cubs would be much better off without Theo because he can't find pitching so frankly this seems like a WIN/WIN situation. If he leaves it just makes the Cubs better and more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

If he went into Ricketts office today and demanded to be the highest paid executive in baseball with a guarantee that he will be the highest paid executive in baseball throughout the duration of the contract, I have no doubt Ricketts would agree.

Have you ever seen baseball contracts? Those things are 99% boiler plate. It's not much different than a form real estate contract. Even if it were complicated (which it is not, in relation to the field of contract law) it wouldn't take a year to determine and draft terms. It might not be steak dinner, boom but it is no more than weekend getaway, boom.

Theo will be the highest paid executive. The question is...by how much? Is a portion of that stake in the team? How much is incentives? etc etc

It wouldn't shock me if he was waiting to see what was going on in Boston before he made a long term decision. He figures that Jed could step and do more than get him his coffee and he'd still get the credit here.

Yes, I am concerned.

And I sincerely hope that the Ricketts' aren't low-balling Theo, but of course nothing is beyond the realm of possibilities.

Come on, Matches.

I've been on this for over a year.

Why hasn't the extension been signed? I want to be wrong, but there's a part of me that's concerned there's something going on behind the scenes. Whether it's a low-ball offer, or Theo and Crane or possibly a Ricketts sibling butting heads, there's some smoke there.

Would you be happy if the White Sox hired Theo?

He's probably not signed yet because if the Cubs God forbid win a pennant his price doubles what it would have been in March.

I want to know why his value doubles based on one playoff season.

Is another owner saying they will pay 18 million a year for Theo but only if he wins a title this year? Otherwise he is only worth 9 million?

And don't forget that the playoffs are a crap shoot.

One thing is certain, no matter what happens with Theo, Dolphin and other Sox fans will use it as a means to mock the Cubs and their fans.
