If I didn't have an awareness of privacy concerns, I'd be completely pro because (a) it might bring people outdoors; (b) it might bring people together via recreational activity; and, perhaps most importantly, (c) it might bring outstanding news stories (like two dopes falling off a cliff in San Diego).

There are no security concerns. That non-story was an attempted sabotage by the partnership of Supercell and Zynga.

Any 'extra' permissions the app had on iOS were patched out a couple days ago. Android never had those permissions.

You may well be right, but are there credible sources on that?

Not at all. But it makes too much sense. Many of the "articles" I saw about it on Facebook were from known influencer sites. Those sites post anything if you throw them enough cash.

I imagine Supercell and Zynga are not so happy about Pokemon Go.

A simple 'no' would've sufficed.

So we could deal with you bitching and moaning about how no one is providing you details?

I thought I'd nip that in the bud.

Well, there were security concerns until they fixed those security concerns. Something doesn't become a non-story because it eventually gets fixed.

It was a non-story because there are five other applications on your phone that have those same permissions, and STILL have those same permissions.

And, again, no one NEEDS to use a Google account with Pokemon Go. It is an optional method to log-in. Those permissions were 100% optional.

So why did they change the permissions almost immediately?

They were unneeded permissions. Why try to claim they are needed?

Rick, you're a tech savvy guy. Don't be an idiot. Don't try to pull a 'brick' on me. I'll have nothing more to say to you on this matter.

This is not a response. They chose to put those permissions in. It is a story as to why those permissions are in there and they quickly realized they messed up.

Now, I don't think the Pokemon Go people had a secret plan to access parts of your phone but it is a story when an app that tracks your position, has access to a good portion of your personal information also requests permissions well outside the needed scope.

Imagine an alternate reality where they said "Yeah, we have full access to all these permissions, but we promise to not do anything bad". Would it be a story then?
