Park in the lots south of Soldier Field. There is a free water taxi that will take you across Burnham Harbor.

Took Uber there last year.

It didn't look like a fun place to get out of by car afterwards so the South lot thing sounds like a good plan as well.

rent a kayak down at 31st street and kayak to the island.

Go down to that 31st Street beach on a holiday weekend. There are Asian, Latino, and Black families all grilling. It smells amazing.
