They sure didn't slow him down any like I thought they would. Still looks like a relievers delivery to me but at least he's still brisk walking. That's a trait of hard throwers.

I have no idea why a guy like Carroll, who has been competent in spot start situations for years, gets cut while turner, who is the exact opposite, gets another start

I have no idea. There is absolutely no way that guy has done anything in his shitty career that deserves to get major league starts. He should be released.

You know exactly why. Carroll is a soft-tossing right-hander who has overachieved. Turner was a top ten pick in the first round with electric stuff. The Sox aren't the first team to hope they could resurrect his career. It's like a lower level version of preferring Vazquez to Buehrle.

The fact that Scott Carroll vs Jacob Turner is even a debate is clearly a big part of the reason as to why the Sox are 6 games out of a playoff spot right now.

No shit! It's easier to blame Ventura though.

He is not swinging the bat or giving up home runs, but as you have said you can't fire (all of) the players. Somebody has to wear it for this season and it should be Venchura.

I think he should have been bounced last season. But there's a difference in believing he should be fired and thinking that it's actually his fault this team is no good.

He is part of the reason for sure.

Tim Anderson was hitless this weekend. Lets see if he is leading off in Seattle. Not that I think he should be benched, but the Sox have scored 1 run their last 4 games so the lineup should be mixed up a little bit.

I don't think that's true at all. There isn't a manager that is going to win with this team. And what difference does it make if you mix up the lineup when most guys are going 0 for 4? Anderson isn't really a leadoff hitter. But the Sox organization is still stuck in an era when leadoff meant a fast guy who could bunt and steal bases rather than a guy who can actually get on at a high rate. Eaton should lead off, but it's not like that is going to suddenly make this a good team. He was leading off before Anderson came up and they were just as bad.

Not the way you want to start he 2nd half. That was embarrassing. You even get a solid start from Shields and get flat offensively. Eaton needs to be in the lead off spot and they need to get their heads straight with the bullpen situations.

Not good.

I think there are a few managers in the game who would have done a few things to stop the Sox May & June swoon before they fell under .500

Joe Maddon, as overloved as he is, is probably one of those guys. Ozzie Guillen would have yelled and cussed, but it would have been something which is better than doing the same thing over and over again.

No shit! It's easier to blame Ventura though.

five of six versus last place teams before and after a vacation

I think there is some room to look at the way the team is managed

I'm not advocating keeping Ventura. I'm just saying that the idea that someone else is going to come in here and "make" this team play better is fantasyland.

I do not think that somebody else can manager this current Sox team to the ALCS or the World Series.

There are managers out there that can absolutely come into the dugout today and make this team "play better."

Complacency and lack of accountability seem to be the keys under Ventura. The two times his team has been in 1st place with a relatively sizeable lead, the Sox pissed it away pretty quickly.

Wasn't Ventura managing when they got the sizable lead?

Yeah. But when things go south, it is pretty apparent Ventura has no idea pull his club out of a tailspin.

I can't blame that on Ventura.

If a closer can't protect a 3 run lead, that's on him.
