So I think Arrieta purposely sucked for the past month. He is genius. He wants to stay in Chicago, but Boras is his agent. And Boras maximizes worth. So to drive his own worth down just a tad, he saw that the cubs had a 12.5 game lead in the division, and figured he could drop his 2016 statistics a bit. It would be hard for him to settle for $30M a season if he had a 1.50 ERA a season after having a 1.77 ERA. Smart.
