You could undoubtedly unload Robertson if there is as much of a market for relief pitchers as reported.

This is as good as Melky is going to be playing so sell at the top of his market, whatever that is.

They shined up a turd with Shields. I would not give him away as he is now on a roll with and can be offered with a now favorable contract. There will certainly be takers for him.

They might be able to do the same with Gonzalez. He has cleaned up pretty well. His numbers aren't great but I think they are skewed by a few bad outings.

It really is time to explore interest in Melky. He would fit in either the AL or NL and has plenty of post season experience

The Blue Jays would seem to be a good trade partner with moving Melky to RF.

Carroll to the Rangers for cash.

I liked him as a long relief and spot start guy. He gets exposed after a couple of starts. He should be pitching in Turner's starts.

A few more notes out of Chicago…

The White Sox are now at least considering changing course to act as sellers this summer, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. In particular, David Robertson is generating quite a few calls for the Sox, who have lost five of their past seven games and dropped below the .500 mark. Robertson is owed $29.45MM through the end of his contract in 2018, so he comes with considerable financial considerations. Then again, he’s also pitched quite well outside of a pair of disastrous meltdowns that saw him yield four and six earned runs this season, and the demand for impact relievers is high.
The ChiSox are also getting quite a few calls on outfielder Adam Eaton, says Heyman, though he’s controllable at a much more affordable rate and for considerably longer than Robertson. Eaton is owed just $21MM through the end of the 2019 campaign, and his contract includes club options for the 2020 and 2021 seasons that are respectively valued at $9.5MM and $10.5MM. For a player with his offensive profile and defensive wizardry in the corner outfield, that’s an enormously valuable deal that would require a huge haul for the White Sox to surrender.
While most who eye the White Sox will be hopeful that the club will part with ace Chris Sale or No. 2 starter Jose Quintana (who would be the top pitcher on many teams), Morosi tweeted this morning that there’s still great doubt within the industry that the Sox would part with either left-hander. The Dodgers, he notes have the prospects to make an overwhelming offer, and I should point out that the Rangers do as well, with Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News recently speculating that they could be a fit for Quintana if the Sox decide to sell.
Morosi tweets that the White Sox will have opportunities to move lefty reliever Zach Duke, who is controlled through 2017 and earning $5.5MM next year. That’s probably an understatement, as Duke boasts a 2.97 ERA with 10.5 K/9, 3.8 BB/9 and a 58.1 percent ground-ball rate this season. If the Sox do sell off some veteran pieces, I’d wager that they could get a nice piece for Duke even if they understandably hang onto more core pieces like Sale, Quintana and Eaton.

Another source says the #WhiteSox were offered a "king's ransom" for Sale in the last 48 hours and responded with a flat "no."

Unless it emptied a stacked minor league system and returned 1 or 2 MLB ready talents, I'm fine turning it down.

What could possibly be the point of holding onto Sale now? Fuck this organization.

Would love to know who offered the ransom and who was a part of that ransom.

That could prove to be a mistake in the big picture.

They are sitting on 2 of the best starters that would be available and they are turning down a "king's ransom" for one of them? So they keep both and that helps how?

Robertson should be the first to go. I hope Hahn is talking with Boston about Quintana.

Sox are in a fucked if you do, fucked if you don't position.

Trade for finished product minor league players they come with flaws or less upside (Avi, Davidson)

Or you trade you high upside minor leaguers and they get ruined by the Buddy Bell Program.

Might as well keep Sale, Quintana and Co. and hope for the best.

I don't think Buddy Bell is going to ruin anybody, but I don't trust the Sox to know what prospects to get. Think how much better off they'd be if they had left Detroit out of the deal and just traded Peavy for Iglesias.

If they are open to trading Sale, this was a proper negotiation technique. Take the offer, tell them no so that the team making the offer is put in a position of bargaining against themselves, then tell the world you took an offer for Sale and rejected a king's ransom so you can get an emperor's ransom.

There is no downside to keeping Sale nor trading him.

I think they should keep the core (Sale, Quintana, Eaton, Abreu) and sell the pieces (Robertson, Frazier, Lawrie, Melky, Shields, Duke, etc). I think they can get a nice return for Robertson and Frazier. Get what you can for the rest of the crap.

I'm OK with them saying no to Sale trades right now in order to drive up the price. They can get more than a king's ransom for him, just hold out longer.

Quintana, Jones, Robertson, Eaton should be dealt ASAP. If the right deal comes I'm not opposed to moving Frazier, Lawrie or Abreu.
