Best part will be when Chapman's only playoff appearance for the Cubs will be mop up duty in a losing cause in the first round of the playoffs.

I agree that they might lose a game.

If its just Soler then fine but if its Soler and Gaybar then its awful. You are trading a starting mlb OF and a top prospect for a guy you could have fucking just signed.

You can't sign him for this season, and they are trying to win the WS this year.

If it is Soler and Torres and they get him signed to an extension then it seems like a good deal to me.

Don't care about an extension.

Do it.

If they get the extension then yes...I am on board. If its just this year and what will amount to 35ish innings....thats a steep price.

They traded Joe Carter to take a shot at it.

They can trade Soler and Torres.

Exactly. Wasn't part of the rationale of building up the farm system was to trade away those same pieces if/when you get close?

I am truly and utterly floored by the brazen stupidity of MANY that are wringing their hands and rending their garments - both here and abroad - about trading away a superfluous 19-year old single-A shortstop and maybe another ham-and-egger or two in order to secure the services of one of the premier relievers/closers in baseball today, all in an effort to ... oh, what is it ... what are they trying to do, I forget ... it slips my mind ... oh, yeah .... WIN A MOTHER FUCKING WORLD SERIES FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE NINETEEN-FUCKING-OH-EIGHT !!!!!!!!!

That was part of the plan. Now they are reaping the benefits of such forward planning and morons piss on it like they are giving away gold. Soler and Torres are trade chips. Hell they can have cock hat Strop as well. See ya.

I'm fine with trading Soler, it's clear he doesn't really have a long-term role on this current roster now that Contreras and Bryant can share LF. Besides, I still think Theo is going to trade McKinney or Jimenez for a LF rental.

If it's Torres as well, I'd like two PTBNLs back which are either good minor league prospects (say around #120 overall on the prospect lists) if Chapman doesn't sign an extension, or buckets of fried chicken if he does.

I don't understand how an extension would be a necessary part of this...does Chapman have a no-trade clause?

I would throw the breaks on trading Jimenez.

He's a UFA after the season.

because you would rather have a player for more than a 2 month rental...

I'd rather not have to wipe my ass either but eventually you have to deal with the shit whether you like it or not.

Oh I am still in favor of doing the deal, but if you can get an extension then that is a better deal.

"Rick was always a jerk to the managers. Every season he went out of his ways to never learn their names. They were only referred to as ‘manager'. One day, Rick was drawing up a scout in our team room about 2 hours before tipoff. Things were going well, considering he was fully dressed and we hadn't been referred to as Caller Bobs yet. From the white board he started yelling 'manager, manager, bring a towel over here!'.

"Not knowing what to expect, we sat back eagerly awaiting his next move. What happened next still haunts me to this day. Majerus took the towel, pulled his pants down, and quickly took a dump into the towel, which he was holding under his ass. After he was done he used part of the towel to wipe, wrapped it up, and HANDED IT BACK TO THE MANAGER, and told him to throw it away. The kid looked like a deer in giant Rick Majerus headlights. The whole room was silent. Rick just pulled his pants up and went back to the scout, never once mentioning it or acting like anything out of the ordinary had occurred."

I think the takeaway is how he went well out of his way to accommodate the pleb by folding the towel in such a way that it was easier for the guy to whisk away to the rubbish bin ... that's the kind of class you rarely see out of a top-tier college coach from yester-year. Cheney or Coach K, not to mention Bobby Knight, wouldn't have pissed in your mouth if your teeth were on fire, but this guy did a bit of terrycloth origami as a gesture of kindness he didn't really have to offer.

So you're a "the towel is half full" kinda guy then?

Well, that's just nasty.

It's one thing to not be physically able to do it.

But to just not want to is a special level of ugh.

I was not positioning it as reflective of my personal practice. That said, as you have a small cadre of left-handed Laotian immigrants to attend to such matters, I can see why you, in particular, would look forward to an otherwise mundane event for common folk such as I.
