TERRIBLE trade. I think we will regret this in the next couple of years. Too fucking much for a relief pitcher.

He didn't cost 12 top prospects either.

Neither did Chapman. 1 top prospect, 1 middling prospect, 1 journeyman reliever, and 1 dude nobody has ever heard of

If you win a World Series this year, it's all worth it.

No extension? Gutted the minor league system for a 2 month rental.

Looks like that's what Theo's rolling the dice on. He doesn't wanna be in Chicago after this season. So he's all-in on this season, future of the Cubs post-2016 be damned.

In no way shape or form did they "gut" the system.

Unlike the White Sox the Cubs have the talent to trade a prospect and still have a robust minor league system

And honestly if this is the best concern trolling for this trade that you can manage you are better off signing up for Julie DiCaro's SJW newsletter because at least you can make the argument that Chapman is a garbage person, but to say that trading two prospects guts the Cubs farm system is so disconnected from reality that nobody is going take you seriously.

Depending on who you read they either gave up two of their top five prospects as ranked at the beginning of 2016 or one top five and one top ten.

I wouldn't say that's gutting the system, but it is a lot of talent to give away.

The Cubs are going to get 40 innings out of Chapman, better make them count for what they gave away.

Two other teams made big moves for closers this year.

The Red Sox traded for Kimbrell (hurt) and the Astros traded for Ken Giles (bad-ish). The Giles deal especially looks pretty crummy already depending on how healthy Vinny Velazquez can stay.

Anything less than a WS title and the deal looks bad.

realistically, the first 25 or so are a warm up. The trade will be judged on the last 15.

Sounds about right, and Maddon shouldn't hesitate to pitch Chapman into the ground in the post season.

If Bruce Bochy can experiment with Bumgarner's arm when he's under a long term deal, Maddon should use Chapman as liberally is possible.

He hasn't proven that he can be trusted in key games. He's only been to the playoffs twice and he SUCKED both times. They gave up a Kings ransom to rent a guy that's unproven when they'll need him most. They had the same need in the offseason and could have acquired Chapman for substantially less.
