Go Cubs! I'm fine with the trade. What the hell,...why not? As for Yankees....dont they have the A-Rod money coming off the books next year? They can easily sign Chapman back....with or without the A-Rod money.

one thing further on the Cubs which should be agreeable to all parties...the Cubs are good at hyping their prospects both to fans and other teams. This makes it difficult to take their public view on a prospect's success at face value until you see them play at the MLB level. This should be taken into account in this trade, specifically.

I like Zobrist, I'm sure they brought him in to bring some more patience to the lineup and a switch hitting bat, but I liked Castro, especially the way he moved from SS to 2B without a peep.

The Cubs have a handful of other guys who can do that ... and play either position as well or better.

Strong logic.

Are you suggesting the opposite is true, that the Cubs actively made a deal that they were certain was terrible for them?

Tell me more about 'strong logic'.
Your quote says that the Cubs feel they are getting more value than they gave up and that seemingly makes it a good trade.

As compared to all those teams that make a trade where they get less value than they gave up.

This McKinney guy has ~ 600 ABs in AA and his numbers are nothing to get excited about ... in fact they've been trending down it would seem.

I initially liked him but I thought he'd be up by now. The Cubs have the luxury of only keeping the kids that are going to break through quickly.

They needed Chapman, or something extremely close to him. Therefore it was incumbent upon them to acquire him at the lowest price possible. Obviously the conversation started at Schwarber, according to intrepid reporter Jules. The Cubs talked the Yanks down from there.

They gave up a hell of a lot more than what was first reported. It's a big time sellers market.

Torres #1 prospect who is blocked. Warren? Another bullpen/ spot starter guy. McKinney looks like another OF guy. For the top closer on the market I'll take it.

Keyser is just doing what Keyser does. JORR and Dolphin too...no matter what they do or don't do they are going to take the negative side of it. At least Frank was a voice of reason earlier about Chapmans past.

I cannot see how any Cub fan could be upset about this trade. As IMU pointed out, you gave up no player that was going to have any impact in the next 2-3 years.

They are going for it this year, and they did so in a way that they are still well positioned for the foreseeable future as well.

Like you I just don't see the downside here. Torres could be the next Ty Griffin for all we know.

I'm not taking a negative view of anything, but I would point out that no Cub fan would have said the large statement above yesterday.

Sure there are.

Several of us have said continually there is no guarantee with any of the prospects.

Capt Baseball America Keyzer is full of shit.

He constantly threw shade on Baez being a over hyped bust. Anderson is nearly the same exact guy his 1st go around in the league.

Anderson rocking the 30% strikeout rate and sub .300 OBP but he's a "stud".

Come on now. There are many posts on this board about how great Torres was going to be. Now it's like the fox and the sour grapes.

He could very well be an excellent baseball player. He's only 19 so it's difficult to predict at this point. I can say with 100% certainty that Chapman will help the Cubs down the stretch this year and in the playoffs more than Torres so I am in favor of making this move. If he turns into Jeter 2.0 in NY then so be it.

 Are you denying that Torres was part of the next "wave of talent"? I never heard any of you Cub fans compare him to Ty Griffin until today.

I don't think this is a bad trade, but don't tell me Cubs fans- yeah, all of you- don't strut around this fucking board crowing about the Cubs' RICH FARM SYSTEM. Who you crappin'?

It is a RICH FARM SYTEM. He was the next "wave of talent" but then he was traded today.

No one compared him to Ty Griffin. They said there's a chance he could become Ty Griffin.

As a non Cub fan and a person who never follows the minor leagues, I should not have known the name Gleybar Torres...but yet I do. I'm sure it was simply based on the sober and well reasoned analysis of Cub fans.

Isn't the whole point of having a RICH FARM SYSTEM to have the prospect capital to make trades like the very one we are discussing?
