Do you think Sale pitched as well as Lackey last night? Are you saying Sale "deserved to win"?

Lackey pitched really well, but a lot of pitchers would have against that Sox lineup. Abreu sucks right now, and you had almost 3 guaranteed outs with Navarro, Sanchez, and Sale at the bottom of the order.

Sale didn't pitch poorly against a decent Cubs offense. Lackey got to pitch to a bad Sox offense. This was Lackey's first W since June 8th.

Sale struggled all night against the same offense that AAA Pete shut down the previous night. Lackey dominated the White Sox. If Sale faced the Cubs all 162 games the Cub offense would probably be the worst in baseball.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Sale struggled. He struggled against Atlanta, he was mediocre yesterday. AAA Pete gave up 3 runs and Sale only gave up 2. Sale was definitely not sharp, and was wild and behind the count to a lot of Cub hitters. He was able to pitch out of trouble a few times. MANY other pitchers would have given up a lot more to the Cubs last nite.

It's a shame that the White Sox let the Cubs back in it but they still won the cup and that is the #1 goal.

There is no real "cup"! the games have been cut back to 4 instead of 6,so the team holding the cup has to play 500 baseball (winning only 2 instead of 3)....if that's all you have to hold onto, that's really sad. I think the Cubs & Sox split last season too,not sure since IT DOESN'T MATTER!

I care that in your mind, you think your team has won something. Here's a reminder for Sox fans, the real prize comes later this year. You will know this by watching other teams participate in it.

I'd go 4/80 with no problem at all.

He's a "sign at all costs" kinda guy.

My fiance knew that he was my favorite player in the game that wasn't a Cub so when they traded for him she gave me a hug when I got home from work. It was cute. Then I choked the shit out of her.

But yea, sign at all costs. I'll even chip in what I can.

jimmy, you say you do not care about the BP Cup because the Cubs did not win it. Had they won it, you, of all people, would have made MANY posts about it.

I have a hard time believing either fan base actually cares about that Cup. If anything, its fun to mock because it's so dumb.

Both fan bases want to win these games though and it was a split where both teams beat each other's ace. Everyone wins.

I think both fan bases care. It just doesn't last very long.

Hopefully in the next few weeks the Sox do what they should do and the Cubs start playing better and both fan bases can have something to look forward to.

So you think the Cubs are going to the World Series, or do you think they are winning it?

I hope they make it AND win it. Baseball is a fickle bitch, you never know.

It's not like the NBA playoffs where the great or even very good teams usually win their series.

I hope they do too but right now the Sox have the hardware.

As I said though, there is always next year.

1906-made it,lost

1907-made it,won it

1908-made it,won it

first team to appear in the WS 3 straight times!

Ancient history,but still history.

And in different conditions he may have only lasted four innings the way he was pitching. That was a hard park to hit in last night. On other nights that Bryant double off the wall would have gone 550 feet. There was a pitcher-friendly plate umpire in Layne. Sale wasn't as good as he looks on his stat line.
