If you go into next year with Quintana and Shields as your top 2 pitchers you are going to be in real trouble.

If you are going to trade Sale and get the best package you can for him, then should be willing to trade off every other tradeable piece and start over for next year.

It would be so Sox of them to do nothing. Not buy not sell.

Actually that is probably what these fuckheads will do. Nothing. Just like their team has done nothing for the last 4 years now.

They will probably pick up some bum who clears waivers in August.

Don't trade Sale unless we are getting the universe back in return.

Why? So they can continue to draft and sign poorly and not turn his league-topping WAR performances into a single playoff appearance?

White Sox are right. Don't sell either just because. Their talent and contracts make them extremely valuable.

I agree.

If you are going to hold off on trading one of them it is clearly Sale. You can go into next year with an ace on a great deal.

You can't go by that, Juice. The Sox have put a value on Sale and he will either be traded or remain on the Sox. They really cannot lose with regard to Sale or Quintana. Either they get MANY prospects back for them, or they have a clear cut #1 and #2 in their rotation.

Ok, well if we trade him that doesn't improve drafting and signing free agents, so if the options are a.) be a shitty team with Chris Sale, or b.) be a shitty team without Chris Sale, I'll easily go with option A.

So valuable that they haven't even sniffed a playoff appearance in the 4 years the two have been starting for the team, and have made no significant steps in "building around" the two.

Fuck this organization.

Selling your best assets for pennies on the dollar definitely isn't the way to improve. I agree the failure to improve this offense is ridiculous.

And what package is "pennies on the dollar"? If the Sox are indeed demanding 5 top-prospects to even discuss trading Sale and Quintana, and the market isn't offering that up, the team needs to seriously consider taking 4, or even 3. They have shown a complete inability to produce and accrue talent around Sale and Quintana for the better part of 5 years, and now is the time to trade for a top-10 farm system and see what it can produce along with higher draft positioning for the next 2 years.

The Cubs probably help set the market. With the Shelby Miller trade, and the fact that the Cubs gave up one of their TOP prospects for what could be a rental closer, the Sox can easily demand 4-5 top prospects for Sale.

Making a deal just for the sake of making a deal is not going to help the team.

Blanketing of #RedSox’s system by #WhiteSox was first mentioned by @pgammo. Some believe CWS simply laying groundwork for off-season trade.

 Jesus Christ. His value to the Red Sox is never going to be higher than right now. Waiting until the off-season does absolutely nothing other than devalue what assets you have to trade, and lessen any possible return you can get for them. Teams aren't magically going to give up 6 prospects for Sale in December.

And can someone please explain to me what the real-world benefit of this "control" over Sale and Quintana is, and why people seem to want to hold on to that for dear life instead of getting hot prospects? How is "controlling" Chris Sale going to make this team better?

I don't you're right about that with regard to Sale (or Quintana). With the contracts they have, their value will remain high after the season and you might be able to get a big league guy that a team is unwilling to give up in a pennant race.

Considering Sale and Quintana have team friendly contracts it shouldn't be too hard to sign a good bat or 2 in the offseason

Who might those be? Mark Trumbo and Ian Desmond? Nevermind the problem of playing them, how are you going to pay them? Both are going to want $100 million contracts, something the White Sox have never done, nor shown any interest in.

This "add a decent bat or two" has been the cure-all for the White Sox for the last 4 years, and they've fucking sucked at it. But now, all of a sudden, they're going to be able to sign a 30+ year-old power-hitter who won't promptly blow?

And no, I don't have supreme confidence that Hahn and Co. can re-fit this organization for prolonged success with what they get in return for Sale, Quintana, and perhaps Eaton. But at least it would be a different approach, something other than the last 4+ years of failed retro-fitting with guys at least 3 years removed from their prime.

Heard from pair of scouts that Charlie Tilson has plus speed, is a good defender with discipline at plate. Bat is the question. #WhiteSox

The @whitesox get Chicagoan OF Charlie Tilson from the @Cardinals for Zach Duke. Analysis: http://bba.am/RyqIvN

image: http://cdn.baseballamerica.com/wp-conte ... esox85.jpg

WHITE SOX ACQUIRE
Charlie Tilson, of
Age: 23

Tilson is a North Sider heading to the South Side. The Winnetka, Ill., native attended New Trier High, the same school where White Sox GM Rick Hahn prepped, and signed for $1.275 million as the Cardinals’ second-round pick (79th overall) in the 2011 draft. He missed the 2012 season with a torn labrum in his right, non-throwing, shoulder but has played at least 100 games every year since then, developing into a potential top-of-the-order hitter who profiles in center field.

With 70-grade speed his best tool, Tilson will sink or swim with his bat. He lacks power, with some scouts grading him a 30 on the 20-80 scouting scale, and he has to develop enough pop to keep pitchers honest. His career isolated slugging of .099 puts him closer to Michael Bourn/Denard Span territory rather than true impact hitters.

While Tilson had a career-best 46 stolen bases in 2015, leading the Double-A Texas League, he also led the league with 19 caught stealings, and that’s his only 20-plus steal season. He had 15 steals in 18 attempts with Triple-A Memphis at the time of the trade. He has a below-average arm that is playable in center field, where he has above-average defensive ability.

Hahn clearly can't wait to rebuild. Good for him.

I wonder how much he hates having to have to deal with Kenny and still having to employ Ventura.

Would be nice if he had free reign to reboot this franchise.
