So Phil Rogers said the hang up with the Red Sox is money spent on Moncada already making them very hesitant about dealing him. Pretty obvious now that the impasse is the Sox wanting Moncada and Benintendi and the Red Sox not wanting to part with both. It'll be interesting to see if someone budges.

Jerry has owned teams for a total of 65 years. He has 7 titles in that time period. There are not many owners with a better record than that.

If Jerry would of gotten rid of Krause, you might have that 9.

Krause had very little to do with Jordan leaving. He gets a lot of blame because he was an easy target, but Krause brought those 90s Bulls teams together.

Reinsdorf kept both teams in town, built two new stadiums and won titles. Tough to call him a "bad" owner.

It'll be interesting to see if he gets moved , what losing pitcher Quintana fetches in return .

Reinsdorph chose his buddy Krause over Jackson and Jordan...dumb move, the franchise hasn't recovered since that dumb move.

Jerry Buss is. Peter Holt is not because we can't count his record with the "greatest PF of all time" either. I'd love to hear your rationale for Cuban though. I love Shark Tank too but there is no argument that Mark Cuban has been better as a whole than Reinsdorf. Cuban is right now but that isn't what we are talking about.
FavreFan wrote:
I understand I won't change your opinion on this since you believe championships mean everything and anything short of that means nothing.
Championships don't mean everything. They just mean a lot. As Peeps pointed out though, if you want to ignore championships Jerry's teams have been very competitive up until the past few years. The Sox won a ton of games and the Bulls had a down period after Jordan but they were a high seed for a long time and a playoff team pretty much every year. So Jerry can compete well both with number of championships won, and your metric which seems to be years of competitiveness.

Of course it is. Thank you for agreeing.

Tim Duncan wasn't very good when the Spurs won their last title. The Spurs have become one of the model franchises in all of sports. The Bulls are a fucking joke right now. You can't compare the two.

The original premise was before 2007, Reinsdorf was a very good owner.

He sucks now and that's been conceded.

STAY ON TARGET!

The Jordan titles count.

Reinsdorf has been a bad owner since 2007 but he was great.

The Jordan titles count in the sense that yes, of course they exist. But only a fool would attribute them Reinsdorf's ownership.

He's just in a 9 year slump of being a bad owner? Or he forgot how to be a good one?

No, Reinsdorf is a terrible owner who lucked into getting Michael Jordan, and lucked into getting him at a time when superstar athletes didn't usually leave their teams.

Note even you were talking about him in the 90s.

Read the thread again. The discussion is not about today.

Reinsdorf is bad now. He was a great owner for most of his time here.

Yeah, I'm not sure how a logical guy like yourself can view this so inanely. Like I said, you're clearly just relying on an eight year period out of 65 total years to make your case. Cuban and Holt have been tremendous owners since they acquired their teams. They clearly prioritize winning and competent management over everything else. Reinsdorf didn't just learn how to be a great owner for a decade and then suddenly forget the last 16 years. He was never a great owner. He's a guy who was lucky enough to employ Michael Jordan. You admit he's a bad owner now. He didn't just suddenly become bad. That's a ridiculous notion. There's not much to being a good owner. It's all about priorities. Cuban, Buss, and Holt all had way better priorities.

That isn't true.

He was a great owner in the 80s and 90s. He did a great job with the White Sox until 2007 when things went badly and never really recovered. He had a few down years with the Bulls based on a logical rebuilding plan(Curry and Chandler) and then the Bulls were competitive for years which seems to really impress you. In fact, you have argued with me many times that the Thibs years were filled with great accomplishments by the coach.

He's been doing this since 1981. The fall off happened in 2007. That is 26 years(though a few less for the Bulls). We don't think Tim Duncan isn't great because he wasn't great towards the end. We shouldn't do the same with Jerry.

Athletes literally physically break down. There's no reason an owner should ever stop being a good owner short of dementia, which I don't think Jerry can claim just yet.

Also, he wasn't a good owner in the 80's. There's nothing really to suggest he was with either team. Hiring Hawk to run your baseball team and not giving Jordan anything for the whole decade.

Either way, you admit he's been a bad owner for a decade, and you have been possibly his biggest defender on this board. I think I'm fine with saying the two teams I root for will be better off when he's gone.

Come on. It happens to non-athletes too. Was Bill Parcells a great coach? Would you want him coaching your team now? What about Phil Jackson?

I don't think anyone disagrees with that. Jerry's time has passed. Time to pass it on or sell the team.

I'd be fine with either one, providing they were motivated and wanted the job, especially Phil Jackson. If Jerry isn't motivated to be a good owner, he needs to sell the team. Since he won't, I feel no guilt in hoping he dies sooner rather than later, which was what seemed to have started his.

Phil Jackson hasn't been motivated since around 2002.

Puig is a guy that you're forced to take in order to get the other guys you want. It's hard to believe he would be their target. The Dodgers are desperate to dump him.

I think the Sox could find a mutual agreement with Boston on a Swihart, Benintendi, Devers, Kopech + some low level guys for Sale but right now the Sox are much more interested in a 4-for-1 swap that includes Benintendi AND Moncada + some decent (not top) prospects. I'm OK with either deal.

Of course, it's a game of time and repetition. And Sale may not have the career Buehrle did, but his peak is already so much higher I have no problem calling Sale the best Sox starter in my lifetime.

Buehrle won more, though. Both are streaky AF.

Disagree with me again and you and I will go round and round. (I think that's from Reservoir Dogs and I think it means we will fistfight.)

I think the dumb guy would be the one who uses fWAR to suggest that Javier Vazquez has been the third most valuable Sox pitcher of all-time.

That in the fictional world where Vazquez spends his entire career with the White Sox, he would be (or at least should be) considered one of the best pitchers in White Sox history, because his career was pretty damn good, all told. (That, or the bar for "greatest White Sox pitcher of all time might be rather low)

That in the fictional world where Vazquez spends his entire career with the White Sox, he would be (or at least should be) considered one of the best pitchers in White Sox history, because his career was pretty damn good, all told. (That, or the bar for "greatest White Sox pitcher of all time might be rather low)
