Well this is fucking intelligent . We were treated to a 3 inning stint from the 6th starter last night to conserve the other 5 for later on in the season . Hendricks has 108 pitches and Maddon is running him out there for the 9th.

According to Mully this morning, if the playoffs started tomorrow, Hendricks is the 4th starter. In his world, you need power arms to get strikeouts in the postseason and apparently he still thinks Hendricks is all smoke and mirrors.

I'm with ya, his stuff isn't impressive..he's having a great season but I'm still a non believer.

I held that opinion for a long time, but at some point don't we have to say he can be "trusted"? He has one of the best (lowest) exit velocity against and quality of contact against. His advanced stats look better than Arrieta's. And due to his makeup, he appears to be durable and able to stay a step ahead of batters (whom I would've predicted to figure him out by now).

Though I know many hate him, a week or so ago, Sheehan outlined why he was doing much better this year, and it made sense. His stuff is much better. The break and the arc of his pitches have improved dramatically. I'm not ready to say the guy's a stud, but I think it's safe to say that the improvement from last year isn't some coincidental small sample size, either. He will level back out, but I still think he'll remain better than he was.

Whether he is a stud or 5th starter, the guy knows how to pitch. Have to give him the credit he deserves in that regard. He doesn't have overpowering anything. But he can move the ball all over the place and keep the batters off balance. Aren't too many pitchers in the league that have that ability.

exit velocity is somewhat determined by a pitcher's velocity. Bear that in mind.

The question would then be why he's getting such a difference in spin...it's all about spin. Why is his spin better? Why the increase in revolutions?

He's better than I expected, I love his demeanor and how he never looks like he's laboring on the mound or changes his facial expressions .. We needed 9 from him last night n he delivered.. He looked like he could have gone another 3 innings. I trust him more than Hammell .

Ichiro not in lineup again for Marlins. I wonder if Marlins intentionally trying to keep him from reaching 3,000 hits until they return home to Miami next week. Seems like a Miami thing to do.

A shitty first from Hammel but settled down nicely in the second.
