I know the laws say differently, but streets and roads are meant for cars. If you insist on riding a bike, find a sidewalk. If you ride a bike on a road when a sidewalk runs parallel to that road, you're an asshole plain and simple.

This is the flawed thinking I would expect from someone who likes Brett Favre. Sidewalks are for walking. Streets are larger and can accommodate cars and bikes simultaneously. Bikes need to follow the rules of the road and drive to the right side of the road. Stay the hell off of the sidewalks in the city with bikes.

I'm a motorist too. I've been frustrated by bicyclists on the road myself. But irrational frustration is what it is most of the time. If you took all the people on bikes and put them in cars your commute would be much worse.

It probably also has a lot to do with where we live. I could probably understand riding a bike in the city, and I'm sure there's more bicyclists in the city that know what they are doing than in the suburbs. I'll amend that statement to if you are riding a bike on Roselle Rd in Schaumburg for any reason other than you're too poor to own a car, you're an asshole.

I agree that you shouldn't be on Golf Road on a bike. I usually see Mexicans doing that. But I assume they need to get to work and don't have licenses and/or cars.

I have seen several white folks riding their bike on Golf or Higgins during rush hour. Yesterday I saw a guy, during the morning rush, riding his bike from Higgins and Arlington Heights Road all the way past Golf Road. There is no bike lane and precious little room between the curb and traffic. He was over as far as he could possibly be, but I think that is a dumb thing to do at that location at that time.

He didn't have anything with him so it didn't seem like he was going to work. If he had been riding at the forest preserve and was heading home, I would recommend driving to and from the forest preserve. I live in Schaumburg and often ride at the local forest preserves but drive there and back. I would never try to ride my bike there and back. It's an unnecessary risk.

The problem is that cities aren't really designed for bikers. Roads are meant for cars. What the city needs to do is install bike sized holes in the roads so the bikers fall into them and die. That would solve a lot of problems.
