Those cicada killers are wasps that look like they are on steroids. They bug my dogs big time and scare the daylights out of them.

These things dig into the ground, sting the cicadas, bring them back into the mound and lay their eggs on them. Their mounds look like a big anthill and if you get anywhere near them the wasps are very aggressive.



Best defense is a tennis racket and a can of wasp killer Raid.

Or you can spray lighter fluid into the hole on the mound, drop a match and enjoy the show.

Neither. Illinois has annual cicadas. You hear them every year. And sometimes see them if you're outside after dusk in July or August.
