I used to like The Sports Reporters. Now we'll just get more Mike Lupica.

That sucks. Seemed like one of the actual good guys on ESPN.

I always liked the look of bewilderment on his face when Mitch Albom would try to look enlightened but would instead unintentionally say some racist shit.

That's a shame. The guy seemed like a class act and had a very nice voice which I can still hear in my head...(yes,along with the other voices.)

Rest In Peace.

Sure came off as a good guy ... connected w/ the viewer more than most of them, I felt.

Didn't realize the fella was 61. Black don't crack. It does though, apparently, croak.

With Mike Tirico and Tom Jackson leaving and the death of Saunders, I'm not sure there's any older ESPN brothers from the 90's.

Kevin Frazier was the only one I could think of but he left.

Now all you have is Scott Van Pelt.

Hell of a note, ESPN no longer satisfied simply forcing these guys into early retirement.

When did Tom Jackson leave?

I always liked Saunders. He could pretty much do anything on the network well. Damn shame he died so young. LeBatard said on his radio show today that Saunders had some health issues in recent years, but didn't elaborate.

Poor Hannah Storm... she had to deliver the news re Stuart Scott, which everybody senior at ESPN knew was coming. And she's on the air again today, and this time it seemed like a bit of a stunner; her hands are shaking as she's delivering the news, and she's pretending to fiddle with papers to try and keep the viewer from noticing at the same time she's talking on air.

We'll always have Fred Hickman in our hearts.

For all you youngsters out there....

CNN's "Sports Tonight" was a better show than Sportscaster back in the day.

Stephen A. Smith did a great job of giving a tribute to himself that briefly mentioned John Saunders' impact on him.

Mike and Mike talked to Robin Roberts this morning, John Saunders was the person who pushed her to push to be on NFL Prime Time, no doubt the springboard for her career that has led to GMA.

She referenced Tim McGraws song "Be Humble and Kind", said it fit John perfectly. I think that's why many of us could relate to Saunders- he wasn't some egomaniac douche like so many media guys.

Saunders was mentioned in a recent Western Michigan Alumni magazine I skimmed through, I'll have to look it back up to reread the article. I wasn't much of a follower of WMU hockey mid seventies, but knew he was an alumnus when I was there and he was on ESPN already.

A real pro at his job, could cover anything and did it all well.

Any updates on how he died? I heard a rumor it was on that waterslide in Kansas?

Must have taken a full detail to get the smell of Old Spice and garlic bread out of that car.
