Okay, more positive. How amazing has the pitching staff been this season, despite Lackey occasionally looking bad and Arrieta and Lester going through a brief stretch of suck?

Are we all in agreement that this is the best regular season Cub team of our lifetimes?

Yes, though on paper the 2004 team was the best I've ever seen.

They miss La Stella. Cannot win without this goof. IMU said so.

Playoff lineup will be Bryant, Fowler and Heyward in the OF and Baez, Russel, Zobrist and Rizzo. LaStella is behind Soler and Coughlan.

1984 team was better. That was the one year wonder that should have broke the curse.

Yes, though on paper the 2004 team was the best I've ever seen.

Going off the top of my head, I think even on pre-season paper, this year has to be the best.

2004 Cub
C - M. Barrett
1B - D. Lee
2B - T. Walker & every available 2nd sacker Jim Hendry could find.
SS - N. Garciaparra
3B - A. Ramirez
LF - M. Alou
CF - C. Patterson
RF - S. Sosa
U - R. Martinez
SP - M. Prior
RP - L. Hawkins

2008 Cub
C- G. Soto
1B- D. Lee
2B - M. Derosa
SS - R. Cedeno
3B - A. Ramirez
LF - A. Soriano
CF - J. Edmonds
RF - K. Fukudome
U - R. Theriot
SP - C. Zambrano
RP - K. Wood

Trout enters dumb bastard territory by asking for an appeal on a check swing that the home plate ump calls a ball and gets rung up by the 1st base ump.

2003 was the NLCS team, right? That was the best Cubs team I've seen. '08 wasn't all that good.

Again, on paper, the 2004 team had the greatest pitching staff since the Braves. Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Maddux and Clement. It was certainly a more talented staff than 1984. I'd possibly take Arrieta over Wood because Wood had some consistency issues.

When the Cubs added Nomar, despite the fact he was not what he once was, I still thought it was the move that would take them over the top. 2004 was the biggest chokejob in Cubs history.

Easily the most unlikable Cubs team I've witnessed.

Agreed, on paper that pitching staff was ridiculous. 2003 just sticks with me more mainly because Prior was fucking unhittable the 2nd half of the season, and Aramis became the most clutch hitter the Cubs ever had that year.

This year's team is the best offensive and defensive team the Cubs have had in my lifetime. Pitching has been up and down, but we'll truly be able to gauge it when October comes around.

Yes, that too. That last week or two when they were losing to the Reds and Mets, I wanted to scream for hours on end.

It's all good Hoffy. Without that turmoil we prolly wouldn't be where we're at now.
