I hate to be overly dramatic but so far this guy sucks worse than anything ever.

Mel Rojas was bad. And the Hundley kid was terrible too. But those were like four year deals.

Danny Jackson, Dave Smith, Mel Rojas and Jeff Blauser thank you for your support.

It's a terrible signing. What an albatross.

Yes it's a whole lot of money, but thankfully there's no salary cap and he's still young enough to turn things around. Add to that the fact you know his glove isn't going to leave him and there's hope of the future.

Yes, and if they win it all, it doesn't matter.

+ 1

Defense and base running are crucial in the playoffs.

Still waiting for him to put one on the street to maybe get him out of his funk, but not so far.

hey man, sometimes you're the shit and sometimes in sovia russia shit is you (read: sorely lacking the "the")

honestly this is only 1 year of a 3-8 year deal, and i still think if/when he comes around to being exceedingly decent/bucks-style-SOLID he'll still be ~29 circa that first opt out year and there might be a desperate aging owner like mike illitch willing to lock him up til age ~41 with a ~12 year 342 million dollar deal simply because "big caesar" decided he needs cromulent OF defense and "veteral leadership" in his clubhosue as HE WILL SPEND WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET WORLD SERIOUS AND BRING THE TITLE HOME TO MOTOWN!

LITTLE KNOWN FACT = back in the day i used to give out an award called THE TOOD HUNDLEY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE FIELD OF UNEQUIVOCAL INEPTITUDE.

ok it might have been THE TODD HUNDLEY AWARD FOR ACHIEVEMENT IN THE FIELD OF UNEQUIVOCAL INEPTITUDE but nonetheless, my point stands. and technically there's one way of thinking where you could call edlose jackson @ 4/52mil a horrible signing, but since i think the general idea was to splash a little cash to placate a few whiners early on in THE PLAN(TM) while sticking to their overall idea to lose as many games as possible to get super-high draft picks for guys like babe bryant and kyle "babe FUCKING ruth" schwarber, then i'd contend that paying edlose jackson ~13mil/yr to go out and lose ~15-20 games for 3-4 years = brilliant business on the cubs part, cuz where else are you going to get a proven innings-eating perennial 15+ game loser to help you tank for high draft picks? #ThankYouEdlose on the real!

also don't forget how the cubs managed to be a "finalist" in the masahiro tanaka sweepstakes for the headlines/pub but ultimately strategically planned it to get "close but no cigar" because if you remember the mantra for signing big-$$$ free agents was "when it's time" and it clearly wasn't "time" yet. </pedantry>

so uhhh yeah i'm going off the rails here; technically while it's a skip bayless brand "prisoner of the moment" situation to go OMFG HEYWARD IS SO TOTALLY THE WORST SIGNING EVER!!!!!! still man i think you gotta go back throughout the annals of cubbie history and once you get past raw/aggregate mega-$$$ amounts (as even beyond inflation a ~20mil/yr player nowadays isn't as big of a deal as being a 20-million-dollars-in-198#-to-199#-dollars equivalent would be) and therefore i submit that TODD FUCKING HUNDLEY was a way worse signing than jason heyward.... i mean didn't he end up being a total clubhouse cancer on top of being total SHITE at the plate and "meh" behind the plate?
