Somewhere I have a pretty fun mashup of "Backstabbers" but with Brittany singing "Baby One More Time" in front of it ... makes one giggle at how silly yet how not bad it is.

Actually found it here at work ... at least give it through the first chorus ... http://www.angelfire.com/tx6/gdvlfreak2/BritneyspearsVsTheOjays.mp3

(the real shock is angelfire sites still exist)

No

I'm very pro-Beatles but Joe's versions are more inneresting to me.

To be completely forthright, I think both songs are crap. It's more or less picking turds with or without corn husks in them.

The entire Joe Cocker album "With a Little Help From My Friends" is about 80% covers, and each of them are probably better than the original versions. Very underrated record.

Summer Breeze - (Seals & Croft) The Isley Bros. own that song now.

How Can You Mend A Broken Heart - (Bee Gees) Al Green tops em.

Killing Me Softly - (Roberta Flack) Not the world's biggest Fugees fan, but damn their version is a great song.

So Happy Together - (The Turtles) Frank Alamo's take, heard in "Get Him To The Greek" is in French and it's fantastic.

Yakety Yak - (The Coasters) No not the 2 Live Crew rendition but the one from The Drapers is catchy as hell.

Baby It's Cold Outside - (Everybody) Once heard Liz Phair's version featuring Wheat and it shot to the top of my Christmas list. And yes, I like Christmas music.

gotta agree with the Cash/Hurt vote.

always thought Marilyn Manson Sweet Dreams was even more fitting than the Eurythmics version

depending on how 80s or 90s i feel (respectively) either magic men's or aphex twin (aka caustic window)'s versions of hot butter's popcorn

HONORABLE MENTION (for the 2000s) = chris moss acid's version of popcorn. really liked that version, even if it's from an "internet amateur" (home of THE ACID DRIVE THROUGH!!! =) but yeah outside of meeting the 3 URLs per post limit it's not even on youtube and i'd have to dig it up on an old mp3 CD that somehow survived the great flood of 2008 (c'est la vie)

M&H Band's is the canonical "Popcorn" cover if only from all the YTMNDs I watched with it.

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door," yeah, he did.

Deeper into Excitable Boy, I always liked "Tenderness on the Block," because you can so tell it's a Jackson Browne song. "Sorry, Dad, but your daughter wants to fuck" is such a Jacksonian-Browneian song topic.

In my car. Listen to it every month or so. My Mother had it on 33 Lp when I was a toddler. Great album. Sandpaper Cadillac is my personal favorite. Change in Louise also a fave.

i really don't mean this in any sort of negative way, but when i started listening to the track (even b4 the "popcorn" parts started) i couldn't help but bust out "your business is very important to us; please continue to hold on the line and a customer representative will be on the line with you shortly! ...... did you know that the CFMB is home to 25 different subforums of diverse interests and topics? that's right, even soccer! just click on board index and scroll down and join in the conversation! [off-tempo pause] the estimated hold time is [different + louder voice] NINE MINUTES! [volume to popcorn kicks back up]"

someday if i ever can get enough $$$ to fully commit to a life of leisure and/or adventure (w-what's that like? =) i wanna start up a service called the BMB or better music bureau where i go around upgrading little menial things like hold music as my way of truly "giving back" to humanity as a whole. stay tuned true believers!
