anyways, i gotta admit that i can't say i've gotten really worked up for an olympics since i was like 8-12 years old. indeed circa ages 11-12 there was "the dream team" and while that was a fantastic idea on paper the actual quality-of-competition was just *shrug* -- by the time we got to dave vs dan or whatever that big giant promotional wankfest was i could truly give a shit, and nowadays in my early-mid 30s i pretty much only stick around on an olympic broadcast if i see a chick that i've declared to be worthy of the D (#realtalk =)

Sitting here killing some time and cannot get volleyball at all. The USA women look great in their little shorts but wtf is up with the scoring? Games up to 25 several different set points? Resembles nothing like the old 15 points win by two and best of 3?

well, so much for the resurgence of Olympic boxing. They made some big changes, a new less confusing point system, got rid of the stupid head gear. For a week things went great. Teh fights were great, the US team had already matched their win total from the last two olympics combined and most importantly, the judging had been accurate. Till yesterday.

Last night I watched the gold medal heavyweight match between the #1 seed from Russia and the #3 seed from Kazikstan. The guy from Kaz beat the shit out of the Russian for 3 rounds, cutting him twice and making him look awful for the entire fight. Judges gave a unanimous decision to the Russian. Crowd booed. Announcer accused judges of having the winner written on the scorecards before the bout started.

I responded by deleting the rest of the Olympic boxing from my DVR. Boycotted boxing for 12 years cause of this shit and looks like I'm back on the boycott bandwagon.
