Cubs have one of the best starting pitching staffs in years.

Not including the second game here (which only makes it better), Coob starters in August have a combined ERA of 1.15 so far.

Serious question.

Do you think Contreras develops under a Hendry regime or do you give the credit to Theo & the boys?

As much as I wanted to laugh at it, apparently several players have commented about how important Rickett's "Cubbie Way" material was coming through the system. Given that Corey Patterson was the extent of positional players developed under Hendry, I'd bet Contreras wouldn't have developed like this under Hendry.

What about Josh Donaldson?

What about him? He took three years in Oakland before it finally came, right? Its very possible the Cubs still played a part in his development, but its also possible its natural talent.

Which is crazy to say because on paper at the start of the year, it was a strong 1-3, I thought Hammel would be replaced by Cahill shortly into the season and Hendricks would be a serviceable 5.

It's also possible he stayed a cub and never amounted to anything. He moved into an organization that preached obp in order to get pitches they can hit. He developed that disapline and now punishes everything in the zone. In a different world could that be Patterson, vitters. Some players can just click in certain places.

Oh yeah. That thing is terrible.

Why do sports broadcast jingles on TV and radio have to be so damn terrible?

Heyward gets a double .... this is what we in the old country call "ya-ha!" time at the bat-rack.

Somehow that song gets worse every time I hear it ... it's like a perpetual misery machine.

They're gonna leave that Milwaukee pitcher out there to die.

49 pitch inning. Might be the most I've seen. At least by one pitcher.

Apparently most ever:

61 pitches - Steve Trachsel - Chicago Cubs - 1997

These are ridiculous numbers when you consider the way Wrigley Field plays.

@ckamka: #Cubs starting pitchers since all-star break (31 games): 2.07 ERA, 200.0 IP, 0.940 WHIP
August (15 games): 1.13 ERA, 103.1 IP, 0.794 WHIP

#Cubs starters post All-Star break **with Matusz exception** 1.83 ERA in 197.0 IP

#Cubs ERA at Wrigley this season
1.31 Kyle Hendricks
1.70 Jake Arrieta
1.79 Jason Hammel
2.01 Jon Lester
2.47 John Lackey

When talking with some stat head yesterday Rozner mentioned the wind at Wrigley and its help to the pitchers. For what its worth he said there has been an abnormal summer as far as wind blowing in at the park.
