There was a time not too long ago that a weak-ass dump like Brazil would pull this kind of stunt against a global hegemon like the USA and then wake up the next morning to find their (admittedly garbage) Brazilian navy scattered across the bottom of the ocean. Things have obviously changed and that type of response would be viewed as a bit of an overreaction these days, but that does not make Brazil's actions towards American citizens defensible. Brazil needs to be put in their place.

One of my friends and ex Co workers was a counselor at the high school where he was a student. She used to try and help the kid. After he pulled the police stunt a number of her Co workers shunned her for trying to help a kid that was a bit of a lost cause (in their eyes). She felt like as an educator that was part of her job. He ended up having a few other issues after pulling that stunt.

I love how mad the Brazilians are that this "embarrassed" them. Other athletes were robbed.

So, from what it sounds like, they were a little disorderly in a gas station and may have urinated outside rather than in the bathroom. A security guard flashed his prison guard badge and gun and said give me money and you can go.

Lochte embellished but the core parts of the story are pretty similar especially for a guy who was really drunk.

As JORR said earlier, this was a ridiculous overreaction by the Brazilians.
