Pedro Strop Diagnosed With Torn Meniscus

Cubs reliever Pedro Strop has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus, the club announced (via Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, Twitter links). He’ll undergo surgery tomorrow, with the expectation that he could be back within four to six weeks.

Derrick Rose should direct his rehab.

 You should be beaten with roll of his magic tape.

Looks like Lackey and Rondon headed to DL. Zastryzny and Pena to be called up.

Can confirm Zastryzny and Pena to join Cubs.

And courtesy of todaysknuckleball.com

According to a report from Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic Chi, the Chicago Cubs are slated to purchase the contracts of left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny and fellow righty, Felix Pena. Sharma also noted that corresponding moves have not been released yet.

Zastryzny, 24, was selected by the Cubs in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He’s pitched for both the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League and the Iowa Cubs this season. With the former, Zastryzny posted a 3-2 record complemented by a 4.29 ERA over 52.1 innings; with the latter, he compiled a 7-3 clip and 4.77 ERA over the duration of 81 frames.

In terms of his pitch arsenal, Zastryzny’s fastball sits between 91-95 miles per hour and he has two different breaking balls in his repertoire — a slider in the low-80s and a curve that tops out in the upper-70s. No longer a top prospect, the young southpaw has been decimated by command issues.

The 26-year-old Pena has appeared in 36 games (zero starts) for the Triple-A Cubs in 2016. The righty is 3-4 with a 3.41 ERA and owns an 81:23 strikeout-to-walk ratio over the course of 63.1 innings.

Is it proper to re evaluate the off season free agent signings yet?

Lackey good
Heyward bad (but life of contract can't be judged yet)
