That defense is great shtick only goes so far. Funny,last year I argued before thgey signed him if he was that much better than Coghlin. My point was maybe better but not 30 mil a season better. At least Cogs get's a hit once in a while.

Heyward has already proven himself to be much more valuable than either of those two.

Though it's possible he may never turn things around at the plate while a Cub, he still has youth on his side in that battle. It's not as if he's an aging veteran on his last legs. And the most important factor in all of this is the fact that there's no salary cap in MLB, so theoretically, his contract shouldn't prevent progress going forward.

I go back to saying that I am hoping the guy truly is just pressing and that this isn't some bigger issue. More than one time I've heard comments about Heyward refusing to adjust, leading to consistently hitting the ball right at outfielders.

And I don't think we're better with Garcia.

He is so fucked up at the plate now with everyone telling him this that and the other he cannot see or swing straight. Sometimes what a mother cat does with her kittens should come into play. Leave them alone and let them figure it out.

So far it looks worse (simply due to the money owed), though Heyward is lucky the Cubs are really good this year, or he'd be getting the abuse the other guys got.

I believe it was $184 million, but there is no doubt they would have been better off signing Denard Span or another better option. He's a superior defensive outfielder and a good base runner. but that is offset by his ineptitude batting. He hits more easy ground balls to the 2nd baseman for double plays, or basic 4-3 putouts than Derrick Lee hit to the shortstops his last couple years he was a Cub. At least he had occasional power though. I said they should not sign him, and this is no surprise to me. The fact he has not had better production so far in the 2nd half IS a departure from his career numbers, which have previously been better in the 2nd half of seasons. If I were the manager he would be nothing but a defensive replacement the rest of the season. As of September 1st, Almora will be back and with all the better options, there is no reason to handicap the team by playing him. Have to hope they can get him straightened out before next season. He should not be on the playoff roster.
