Is it really as horrible as the commercials make it seem? It seems like a high school talent show where the cool kids decide to be ironic and hang out with the nerdy kid and play his stupid little games and eventually they say "Hey, this guy isn't bad. He can come to our parties but I'm not really going to be great friends with him" and then they graduate high school and realize that things were never going to be as great as they were in those golden years of late teenagehood and this is how we get Jennifer Lopez singing about wearing tight pants on a commercial that gets shown 1,000 times an hour during the Olympics. So then the nerdy kid who didn't leave and have a life outside of the confines of the school district suddenly becomes the life of the party as they spend 3 to 4 days a week at the local townie bar until they then all end up getting married and having kids and then they have a bbq once a month where they tell stories about how hilarious they were and Jennifer Lopez pulls out the tight pants song and absolutely kills it as all the wives and husbands roll their eyes with boredom to hear them reminisce about all this dumb stuff but they deal with it because it beats divorce and hey their significant other has worked their way up to a middle management position so they can take a week a year in Wisconsin Dells and have a ping pong table in the basement.

So, is the Tonight Show like that?

Rare mordant cynicism from Boilermaker Rick. Yes, it's all those things and less. Not much has changed since this thread.

BR sounding off and reading a little like a "Sini" post.

To be honest,I enjoy Fallon right up until the first guest. His monologue with help from his sidekick usually has me laughing pretty hard or at least giggling. In the past hosts years,Leno was more clever than funny with a lot of his jokes. Sometimes Fallon doesn't care about his prepared Shticks and just starts ad-libbing with his sidekick. It's pretty funny.

What is not funny is his fascination with "trending" topics on the internet. Also the terrible skits and games he plays with celebs on the show. Most seem very childish.
Still I like him way better than Colbert (Who seems he is on some weird mission for Left Wing politics every night) and Kimmel who's humor is very crass and usually falls flat.

They need to bring back Johnny Carson. And yes I know he is dead, but if they can bring back Harry for the 7th inning stretch, I'm sure they can find a way with Carson.

I got a little lost here.

Is Rick the geek or the bully in this story?

And is Jennifer Lopez actually performing at these parties?

It's not good.

The whole "Lip Sync Showdown!" Stuff has never been good or funny. Same with driving around in a car lip syncing to stuff.

When Trump wins I know he'll ban all that stuff.

i appreciate that the show gives some exposure to the found footage festival with "Do Not Watch". though it at first seems like they act like they discovered those old VHS tapes, fallon makes it a point to reference FFF which is cool.

Can we start bashing the idiots who watch this show, or find this formulaic never-was-funny bastard entertaining? He is the simpletons' comedian imo.

Youtube cat videos have more merit/value.

I'm amused at how far you continue to push this wrong headed meme.

I'm not sure how characters that haven't aged or changed in two decades with punchlines to match is not formulaic.

The rest of the show blows! He can't interview anybody without kissing their ass!
I miss the snide interview techniques of a David Letterman.

Yeah, but Letterman was too surly by the time he was done.

It has to be a hard thing to balance. The cheesy, simple ones like Leno and Fallon probably love it forever... but the more sarcastic, cynical ones (who are actually funny) have to get tired of the act after a couple decades.

I could see Kimmel being pretty surly as he gets older.

I'm too young to remember Johnny. All I know is that I miss Craig Ferguson. No matter who was on his show, you knew the interview would be entertaining because it was always a real conversation.

Yep, Craig was great with guests, and his monologues/bits were always entertaining.

Anyone who watches late night network tv shows in 2016 should be murdered.

There's just always so many better options. Open up that Netflix app, Jimmy!

And anybody who claims that a liberal host is too liberal, shall have his/her body dragged through the street, like Qaddafi.

I honestly don't understand why Jimmy Fallon gets shit on, but Nickelback fans don't understand why Nickelback gets shit on.

I like him. It's just a fuckin TV show, a distraction. Steve Higgins, and the head writer are great, think his name is AD Miles or something. The Roots are great. And now I feel like a hypocrite because I just shit on Goff and Fatass.......No one's perfect....
