No, you don't get it. I wanted them to sign Denard Span instead and he's black. Black had nothing to do with it. .260 12 HR's and Just over 60 RBI is what he averaged after last season. I don't care if he's a gold glove outfielder, you don't pay 184 million to a guy to play great defense.

91 OPS+ Span? HUGE upgrade I'm sure. And then there is no Fowler on the team.

"But then Zimmermann would have signed instead of Lackey"

Oh good. Then we would have hurt the offense and the starting pitching.

We've heard this all. You were wrong then. You are wrong now.

No, I said very early that I wanted Lackey AND Zimmermann as well as Span. I did not anticipate Fowler coming back and Span would have filled in for a season while Almora was getting ready to take over in 2017 full time. As it turned out, despite his hip surgery, he got a multi year deal with the Giants, so that might not have been possible. I sure wasn't wrong about Heyward and that being a mistake.

I don't think George Zimmerman plays baseball.

It sounds like Elmhurst Steve now has the 2016 NL Cy Young winner as a long relief man in his fantasy Cubs team.

This is getting glorious.

He's pretty infamous for that comebacker bang-bang play ...

I'm wondering ... who can tell me who hit that homerun?

I actually figured that Hammel and Hendricks would battle it out for the 5th slot. Good to have depth in case of injury and with Hammel struggling in the 2nd half of 2014 and 2015, having some depth isn't a bad thing should his history continue. Fortunately, he has been much better so far in the 2nd half this season. But to count on that, would be silly. Bringing in Adam Warren addressed that, but to a far lesser degree than Zimmermann would have.

Starlin Castro just hit his 16th and 17th home runs tonight.

That was a trade that didn't work out so well. You could have traded Starlin...but not for just Adam Warren.

How many HR's and RBI is that on the season now? The ball probably should have been caught too. But it would be great if he could actually contribute more with the bat.

That was more about moving the contract (which prior to being moved to 2nd and going on a great run last season, was unlikely to be moved without picking up part of the deal) and opening up a position they wanted open for Zobrist.

You just said a lot without saying anything.

Yes, we understand why Starlin was traded. It was a poor trade.

It's scary to think about how good Russell will be in a couple years.

Before we get any farther, I'd like to take a moment to point out that FUCK STARLIN CASTRO.

Thank you.

Let me make it simple for you.......it was basically a salary dump. It made room for Zobrist and freed up money for his salary, so you can almost look at it as having traded Castro for Zobrist.

You didn't simplify it. Now you're talking about adding free agents into a trade. That isn't how trades work.

Additionally, Castro was owed $37M over four more seasons. Zobrist is owed $56M over four seasons.

I'm thinking Cubs fans won't be too happy about the idea of Zobrist as an everyday 2B in 2019. Especially instead of Javier Baez or Starlin Castro.

Without freeing up that 37 million, Zobrist is never signed. It was a salary dump, with Warren considered insurance in the spring in case Hammel or Hendricks didn't perform well or someone got hurt. Before 2018 Baez will be playing full time.

I'm worried about the future.

What will they do in 2027?

I'm still against the Castro trade. The Yankees fleeced the Cubs this year.

Not really check the MLB standings and report back. I respect Castro for how he handled the situation last season and wish him the best but they are better without him.

They were fortunate Castro went on a hot streak after being moved to 2nd base, so he could be moved without the Cubs having to pick up any of the contract. It was unfortunate that Warren did not work out better. But do you really miss Castro at all?
