In 7 games Bryant has more than a third of the RBI (34) that Heyward has on the SEASON and almost as many HR (6-5).

Nice shot by Heyward. Too bad he couldn't have done it in one of his at bats with runners on base earlier. Then on the ground ball he almost runs right into a tag. The infielder should have just tagged him to end the inning, rather than throwing to 1st. Dumb base running.

Remember when we thought Ronnie Cedeno was what a SS prospect looked like?

After a Cardinals loss, the Cubs magic number is now 26 and should be down to 25 when this game ends. Didn't think the Cards and Pirates would fall back as far as they have and it would be happening so early.

So, after seeing it prominently displayed the last couple of nights, one begins to wonder if 'Aladdin Bail Bonds' is a major park sponsor because either (a) there is a significantly higher than average criminal element amongst the Padre faithful, or (b) because the Padres couldn't find a better buyer.

Wasn't it Bettancourt that looked at a HR too long to suit Lackey (I have a long memory) earlier this season?

Heyward risks losing his short-lived nickname Electra, as he grounds out to 2nd and drops below the .225 level. But the Cubs are poised to go up by 13.5 over the deadbirds and run their record to 35 games over .500!!!

I don't get why Contreras has not thrown down to 2nd on guys trying to steal. If this guy takes off, he should throw his ass out. The guy on third is not the tying run, why not throw down?

First team to 80 wins.

First NL pitcher to 16 wins.

Which one means more?

Well, that got a bit more interesting than necessary....35 games over .500! Jake leads the N.L. with 16 wins and they go for the sweep tomorrow as I drive into the city to see The Counting Crows and Rob Thomas at Northerly Island!

80 wins, because they want home field advantage through the N.L. playoff run.

Heyward has hit safely in both games since being benched. He's gonna go on a tear soon.

Both were extra base hits. Heyward is not a huge problem.
