All right Mackey I want to play PROGRAM DIRECTOR for a moment because the one you have is clueless!

Tried the PTI thing and this is almost as bad if not worse than Salisbury and Rosenbloom and has no business on the radio in Chicago unless your a 3rd shifter or a night watchmen whose board out of his fucken mind at 3am.

AS much as pains me to say this and I love your buddy Finji but the 6 o'clock hour is a waste of time. Too many commericals and the reruns of your show don't give much to those who are on their way to the UC to either watch hoops or hockey and soon to be baseball on bothsides OR PEOPLE WANTING TO HEAR sports talk and not reruns of 4 fat dudes weighing in at the station and other meaningless bits which were funny 3 hours ago.. You have an hour and half gap without real time chicago chatter.Finji has talent and will grow but Carmen, Hoody and JD should be on right after you guys to bring the rush hour traffic home with again , real time Chicago chatter and phone calls.

Your morning show is great and Sillvy and Waddle are gaining ground on your show but you lose and a ton of listeners after 6pm .You have 3 capable guys to come right on after you and provide a great show. I just think you cheat the listeners and 3 guys in Carm, Hood and JD a chance to grab the 6 pm crowd and build a bit of a following.

Your thoughts my friend ??

I like PTI on the radio. I can't see it on TV. A lot of people can't. They cram a lot of content into a half hour. Hood, Carm and JD just introduce there show in the first half hour and make a couple of bad jokes. I don't think those 3 are anything special.

There seems to be tension between Hood and JD. Carm plays the role of peacemaker. Hood will make a joke about JD. JD gives an awkward short response or is just silent. Carm is the guy trying to be peacemaker and keep the show moving. It's weird. Other times the 3 of them act like they're all buddies but it seems forced and fake to me.

I don't know why there is an hour MJH post game. How about this: Half hour post game. Start PTI at 6:30.

I will almost universally support local programming over syndicated shows. There are times when I like a more global view of particular sports, but for general sports talk, I do not like syndicated.

I fall somewhere in the middle here. The 6 o'clock hour is, I think, a complete waste of time. I also like PTI on the radio. And Hood, Carm, and JD put on an excellent show for that time slot.

MJH: 2-6
PTI: 6-6:30
The Show: 6:30-11

This would be a good lineup.

I agree w/ Stu's programing direction. I just think ESPN should find someone new to carry the shift after MJH. Or maybe Les? I never understood why he doesn't get more respect.

Maybe it's just me but I can't stand listening to taped sports talk. I'm not saying I'm rational, I just won't listen to it.

There's something about listening to the radio and having the expectation that it's live that I can't get past. I understand these taped segments may only be an hour old, but it's a mental thing.

I view it as a critical hour. I am either commuting or exercising in the 6 o'clock hour so it is the time where I am a most captive audience.

+1 (HA!)

Not that I've ever called in to a radio show, but I like the illusion that I CAN when I hear something I have a comment on. I have e-mailed a lot (not on a Grid scale) though.

If you want to re-rack a couple of interviews or something, fine. But hearing a re-rack of simple bantering? Keep it.

As for PTI, there's no need for anything syndicated untill the night-time hours.

I am not a big fan of the taped 6 o'clock hour. I think it makes listeners from the 5 o'clock hour turn the station. How many listeners from 5 change at 6 to SCR? (one that I know of for sure).
I was promised, that when breaking news happens at 6, that MJH will stay on and report it, but that hasn't exactly been the case either. Biggest example I can think of at the moment was the Bonds indictment. Not that it was all that big a story, but ESPN TV was covering it, and not a peep from the tape player at MVP.
PTI is brutal on the radio, and it is part of a frightening trend.
Hood and JD and Carm are fun to listen to.
But you gotta shitcan that 6 hour. I like Finfer, I do, but hearing again what I just heard an hour ago makes me switch. Why would you do that?

You knew where to find Bonds coverage. I'm glad MJH or any local show didn't waste much time on that mess.

I also think the 6 O'Clock hour is a waste. I don't want to hear the same exact stuff that I heard earlier in the day. I am not retarded that I know of and can remember the earlier segments.

I have already expressed my feelings about the re-rack hour. I am usually an all day listener so I don't want to hear it replayed to me.....

I admit ahead of time that this is going to make me sound a bit like a company man...

The 6:00 hour is not intended to benefit the people on this message board. I assume a lot of you listen to a big chunk of the show between 2-6. However, not everyone is able to do that.

That being said, I'd rather we had live local coverage as well. I'm a big fan of Hood, Carm and JD and would love to hear them right at 6:00. But I also enjoy having some air time. It's kind of a double-edged sword for me.

How about this Finji. You do a half hour MJH post game and a half hour Hood, Carm, JD pregame. You can interview them in the green room. Discuss the weather report and pick your fantasy host for the days show.

How many times have we talked about Bonds and roids on MJH? That is a HUGE story...but not something we've covered to death. We like to have fun...let Mike and Mike and Tirico dissect every angle.

We've only made roids in baseball a major topic once, when the Mitchell Report came out.

We don't let ESPN TV dictate what the stories are that we should be talking about. Mac, Jurko and Harry make that call.

Good idea Beardown. But only if I can get Jillian Barberie in to do the weather.

Finji's Pick to Click. I'm taking Hoody tonight. Mercy!

I know I'm probably in the minority but I don't like replays of stuff I haven't heard either. I just prefer live radio (unless it's a Ron Zook interview rerack).

Nothing against Finji - I'd take all the airtime I could get if I were in his shoes. I'd rather just give Finji the hour to do what he wants.

Finji, the guys on the message boards are just like all the other jamokes that listen to the show. I'll wager a lot of people on the board are here because they heard Mac talk about it. We are a microcosm of the greater listening public.
By the way, you do pretty well in the 6 o'clock hour with the limited material you have to work with. I'm sure it would be better if we didn't have to listen to reruns. That does kill any momentum that MVP has going at 5:50.

I'll admit...I'm gone at 6:00 but would stay if it was 100% live.

I definitely understand your point guys. Obviously live is better than taped. And most of the feedback I've heard is similar to what has been said here.

Wait a sec, you've got me all wrong, here. I'm not saying I needed Bonds talk, I just thought that they said they'd cover breaking news. In fact, they just wanted to roll. I understand that, I do, but you bill the show as 3-7 and when Breaking News happened at 6 there was nothing from MVP. I know we cover roids and Bonds to death, but this news was really a bit different; it was not even 'roids news. He was being INDICTED on what we'd been overtalking about for months. It was worthy of a few moments, maybe. Barry Bonds indicted. An active player indicted. It was certainly newsworthy. But again, that was a single example of the problem with the 6 oclock "post game", not my big beef with it.
Ok, I am glad you like to have fun. I like to have fun too, but when I am listening to one of only 2 sports stations in the city, I switch if one isn't covering something fresh, that is happening right then.
This has not been a frequent occurence, breaking 6 o'clock news. I get that.

I don't get to listen to the entire show, so when I first heard about the postgame it sounded like a great idea. But in practice it sounds like a bad compromise.

There's something about the canned radio banter that just doesn't work. Sure, there's occasional exceptions--like the Boylan interview yesterday-- but mostly it just feels like the station is killing time.

Finji , I'm all for you getting your air time and running down your dream and you have talent but all I'm saying is that it should be done in a different format. You say the programming is not FOR the CSFMB but in a sense it is because this is your hardcore listenership telling you and your management it's not a good way to set the table for your other programming... I love the transition you have with Carm , JD And Hoody and again I think your a talented guy but the current 6 o'clock format sucks and does nothing for me and by the sounds of the rest of the posts we are in agreement. This is not an indictment on you and your talent it's the long commericals , the bits and you just giving your 2 cents on what's been played..I'd rather hear you break down the cover 2 or hear your toughts on the Bulls or comment on the Championship games instead of breaking down tape of MJH BITS..

Well if thats the case why doesnt someone change the lineup? Sounds like the feedback is falling on deaf ears.

I generally do not listen much between 6 and 7. And from what I've heard so far, I will not listen much between 7 and 7:30 either.

Taking this a step further if this is the way hardcore listeners feel imagine the effect on the average listener.
This is some high quality, free, market research. Companies usually pay big bucks for input like this.

When I first heard this idea I was under the impression that it would be a couple of segments of stuff from earlier in the day, but then 1-2 segments of past interviews or really good convresations that they have had. My theory is this- they have been on the air for 5 years, so there are 3 years of material to work with (-2 years for suspensions and vacations). Like that Ditka meltdown earlier this year- I wouldn't mind hearing that again....

Oops this post was more than 3 words, my bad....

Not deaf ears, my ears. Unfortunately I have no power here.

Like I said, I agree with you. I prefer live programming as well. I was simply explaining the reasoning behind the hour.

Most of the people on the board are avid listeners. And trust me, I appreciate it. You guys have become a valuable focus group for MJH. The 6:00 hour, however, is obviously geared toward the non-avid listener.

I didn't mean to suggest that the message boarders are unimportant. Apologies if it came out that way (I feel like Hillary Clinton defending her Martin Luther King comments now).

ESPN needs to change up the post game show. Finji needs to be responding to what happened during MJH. Play a 30 second or less clip from the show, and then Finji gives his input. You can even have callers responding to what happened.

I would much rather hear a couple of the clips from the Boylan interview and then hear Finji give his thoughts and if there is time some thoughts from other callers.

In the current format, it's not really a post game show. A post game show has highlights but is mostly analysis. When Fox does the post game show after a Bears game they don't simply replay the final 5 minutes of the game, they show a highlight or two and then do there own analysis of it.

My recommendation is to have about 10 1 minute clips from the show available and get through as many as you can but a majority of the show should be new stuff from Finji and new stuff from callers.
