I am not a woman's shoe expert, but I figures I would take Lainey's word for it.

It was a lot of fun. Very predictable concert but that is what you are going to get from a 65 year old guy who hasn't put out anything new in a decade. I made it from Midlothian to Wrigley in time for the first song AND still found free street parking.

I don't contend he is the best but that is a really good concert at Wrigley on a Friday night in the summer. Sing along songs to get drunk to, kind of like hanging out at an Irish pub on a night they are playing traditional music.

If liking his music makes me gay, then reserve ten minutes at the glory hole for me because I'm deep throating

I also saw Bruce Springstein last night. Comparatively, obviously The Boss rocks much harder than Joel. I also think he has many more turd songs to slog through that the hard core fans want to hear. Joel fans are generally old with as many women as men. Bruce can still draw young people but he gets the old frat boys all strumming air guitars to his songs.

The guy played for 3.5 hours. I couldn't stand for 3.5 hours and this guy is putting in a full effort show that entire time. Boss stays in good shape so I guess he has stamina but I don't know how Little Steven doesn't keel over with a grabber.

I don't think there is a guy better to his fans in the history of rock and roll than Bruce Springstein. You can tell that he loves his work, appreciates his fans and completely gets off on seeing people enjoy his product. I had tickets behind the stage, literally spitting distance from him at times. He played to the entire crowd, turning around and hanging out in the back of the stage for at least 1/3 of the concert.

This was generally an older crowd. What kind of dipshit adult makes signs that they are going to hold up at a concert. I get that it is kind of a thing with making requests but wouldn't you, at some point as you sit there at a kitchen table with your marker and poster board, feel like a loser? It's not a heat of the moment thing like going streaking. This takes pre planning and effort. Fuck were there a lot of political signs, as well. Anti trump, pro Hillary, rights for people of all different colors and persuasions...give that shit a rest for a night.

as an aside, Bruce usually brings some little kid up on the stage for a few cute, off tune lines of his music

Yesterday, he chose some precocious little shit who obviously had training and was looking to put this on her resume for when she tries out for Gavroche. She belted out some overproduced version of Waiting on a Sunny Day and then treated the stage like it was her own. Fuck you parents. I'm sure it will be all worth it when she is singing backup to some band playing Martyr's once a month

I love Springsteen up through Nebraska, but only like a smattering of Billy Joel songs, and even at his best on stuff like "Allentown" or "The Downeaster 'Alexa'," he's kind of corny. Then there's stuff like "We Didn't Start the Fire" or "Only the Good Die Young," which are incredibly corny. I mean, "Movin' Out" was a showtune before it was an actual showtune.

Springsteen's? I dunno, there's a lot of lousy stuff in there on and following Born in the USA:

I meant Billy Joel.

I'm on the same page with you for Bruce but I'll include Born in the USA as his last good album. I know people loved it but I never got into The Rising.

It's pretty amazing that Nebraska could have had "Born in the USA" on it but didn't and Darkness on the Edge of Town could have had "Because the Night" but didn't. The butterfly effects on those outtakes are massive.

I said it better.

Still, you have to be a joyless fuck not to enjoy getting shitfaced and singing along to Piano Man ever once in a while. Same with songs like Sweet Caroline. Might as well be communist.

Im a casual Joel fan, same with Bruce.

Sweet Caroline is fucking atrocious. That is a fact. If that means I need to start wearing a red shirt with "CCCP" on the front, XL.

one of my favorite billy joel songs is "rosalinda's eyes".

Sometime in the summer of 1984 the Loop had Springsteen A-Z, playing every song recorded in alphabetical order. My cousin recorded it, and we used it a the soundtrack for our first drive to Alaska, probably repeated a couple of times. He had seen Bruce live several times ( I never have) and raved about the stamina of concerts back then. I got hooked hard and bought every album, but something about the universal love for BItUSA turned me off, and I turned to George Thorogood.

I remember hearing Billy Joel's Piano Man for the first time, in my buddy Kenny's basement, mid-seventies. We were hooked on heavy metal (and obscure Chicago punk rock) and I could not get over the idea that we all liked songs by a guy with absolutely no guitars and all keys, what a concept! Kenny later moved to Grand Rapids and lost a nut to cancer.

I used to not like The River very much, thought the instrumentation was too dull compared to the first three albums, but I've come around on it in the last year or two. I don't know what my favorite Springsteen song is. Probably "Lost in the Flood" or "Incident on 57th Street."

Just because you aren't very masculine doesn't mean you are gay.

So you got that going for you.
