Sure, there's your porn, your email, your messageboards, etc. ... but being able to so easily find and access stuff like this, imo, makes the internet as great as it is.

I remember getting Toughskins jeans from Sears as a yout in the 80's. Fortunately, I didn't have to wear Husky.

Oh the toughskins. Different type of fate and probably a distinction without really establishing a difference. Those toughskins were rough sledding. Their ability to absorb snow was rather impressive as a I remember.

I've had one for 8 years. Still runs like a charm... I do zero maintenance and upkeep on it as well.

Sears is horrible. The previous owners bought an expensive refrigerator from them and the ice machine is leaking. Most companies try and help you out over the phone.

Lol. Try to help you over the phone. That's good.
I don't know why that is so funny. I've had other appliance companies who did. The difference they actively didn't want to try and send anyone out as part of their business model.

I'm not shocked you don't know why that's funny.
If you're not smart enough to find a simple leak then you're likely not smart enough to have someone tell you how to fix it over the phone. And I guess you don't know much about call centers. Suffice to say they're largely staffed by people who can barely read. Just ask chas.
If I owned a company I would never ever ever for any reason give over the phone help. Some dude who can't understand basic plumbing issues screws something up and suddenly they're claiming you're responsible for 10k in floor damage or new carpeting or god knows what.
Nope. If you can't fix it yourself bite the bullet and pay to send out a technician who knows what he's doing.

I'm sorry you can't fix stuff with simple instructions.

It's pretty common for them to have a checklist of things for you to check and try over the phone with other companies. This was my only experience where tech support basically asked one question: "Is it less than a year old?" and then "Let's schedule a technician to come out and it will be $X for them to walk through the door".

I assume this is because of your HVAC experience. I would get a professional for that. For an ice machine I'd prefer to see if there is a simple fix.

It's because of bone heads who can't download a schematic or check for a YouTube video or follow a simple plumbing line suing them because they flooded their kitchen and ruined a floor that they won't give advice over the phone.
If you're not handy enough to figure it out I don't blame them for not wanting to walk you thru it

What you fail to understand here is that other companies have done basic troubleshooting before sending out a technician.

But hey, keep talking about plumbing lines like this ice machine is a $5,000 piece of machinery built on space age technology.

If you cannot fix it without someone on the phone walking you through it you need a tech. This is not that hard to comprehend.

Our Sears closed two years ago at the mall. It's weird being 23 and feeling sad about the store closing, but I always enjoyed Sears. They used to have a lot of goods until the mid-2000s. I actually got my senior photos done at Sears.

Then, as the article mentioned it was a slow decline.

I visit and stay in Bourbonnais every year for Bears camp. I'm always shocked that the Sears is still open in the Bradley mall.

It's just surreal entering that and KMart. Like stepping back into a time prior to my birth. Kmart in my hometown also has very few registers, and the receipts for one item are two feet long and 3 pieces.

That said, our Kmart has the best Little Cesar's so there's some redeeming qualities from it.

I didn't need a walk through. I was just looking for any help on what to check. They gave none. I'll stick with other companies.

What? I was fucking with you in the Fire Hahn thread but don't remember anything outside of that. I'm just sayin, it's not unreasonable to ask an appliance company to do some basic troubleshooting over the phone.

Exactly. Other companies have done this and gotten things fixed without a tech.

The difference is Sears builds repair services into their business model so they act like it's a state secret.

Whatever makes Darkside and Scooter feel superior though since they can fix anything and are manly men that don't need to explain a problem and get a few suggestions from the company that built the thing.

Wow that's depressing. I used to patronize Dental Works, which was located inside a Sears store. Those picture are representative of things I saw inside Sears.

If we could just bring back Venture, I'd be a happy man.
