Not if it's done right. There's enough pointing to John to make it work.

I'm not buying into that one. We will find out soon enough. I'm pumped for the finale.

Yeah, I don't mind how it ended. I like that they went with a somewhat realistic ending. I feel like I missed something besides just the cat in the last scene though.

I didn't mind the ending, but how they got there was a bit of a stretch.

Box bothered me the most, followed by Chandra.

Box was great until the campus security thing. That and Chandra's kiss a few episodes back were dumb, but otherwise I thought it was great. I still don't really understand the cat thing though.

Box sitting out the months previous and not investigating until the 11th hour felt forced.

Chandra went from the kiss to smuggling drugs in her cooch for Naz.

Did Freddy deliver the tape to John to help or hurt Naz?

At least the cat lived.

I think Freddy wanted a mistrial and thought he would get Nas for a bit longer without actually hurting him and possibly helping him. I think he was sincere when he was talking to Nas at the end.

Fair point on Chandra. Forgot about that for a second. I like that actress though and hope she gets future HBO work.

I bought the Box storyline. I think Chandra got to him on the stand and it was eating at him. I thought they played that right the whole way, from it seeming like a slam dunk, and him being apathetic but still somewhat unsure about the whole thing, to finally having his professionalism and ego challeneged, etc.

Fuck the cat, Stone should get a dog.

I'm still thinking about this. I think that's the mark of a good show...
After all is said and done, only John really escaped the trial unscathed. His closing arguments were so freaking good, no way would I have went with the guilty verdict after that.
Naz's life is forever altered, he'll be back in jail within a year.
His parents life is ruined, they have to probably move out of state just to get away from the crap.
Chandra's career is over (might be for the best, she was a shitty attorney)

I don't know what to think about Freddy. He's giving this genuine speech about how he has to protect Naz because he's a unicorn and he knows he's a good person. While saying all this Naz is getting their next fix all cooked up. If he really cared about Naz wouldn't he have been trying to not get him hooked, he has to know that road is going to lead him back. I think he wants Naz back inside.

I agree with the Box stuff. I think that it could have been handled better but I got the point and it was, overall, believable. He was a guy that was ready to go, seen too much and this was his last one...that just so happened to have a dead ringer for a conviction. But even from his first meeting with that prosecutor you could tell he wasn't so sure...and that built up. Just wish they would have brought some of it forward because it seemed a tad rushed. That or given us a clearer view of the actual timeline.

But, it felt that this was a dramatized snapshot, a slice out of the bigger justice system picture.

Oh, and he totally disowned his mother at the end. What a whore!

I thought it was really well done. Would have wished for a little more development on the Nas and Freddy relationship, but that's really my only complaint.

I heard they shot a pilot with James Gandolfini as Stone while he was pitching the show. I very much want to see that.

I was wondering how he was the Exec Prod considering he has been dead for 3 years.

I think they said they wanted to credit him that way since he really had a big hand in pushing this to production when he was still alive. He was supposedly very passionate about this project.

I don't see why this couldn't become it's own anthology series. It was very good.

It was like a very gritty, well written, well acted Law & Order miniseries. They could pump out one a year easily.

Yup. Just read a review that said the exact same thing, and I think summed up the show nicely:

Quote:
Sometimes a cigar is a cigar and a procedural is a procedural, and the last 90-minute installment proved although the pedigree and the set-up suggested something much grander and sweeping, what we'd really been watching was the greatest Law and Order storyline ever, covered in a pleasing sheen of high-gloss grit. By those standards, The Night Of was a rousing success. You just had to get over that it wasn't The Wire, Season 6 first.

My question is how long did Box have the photo of Andrea and Ray? He knew there was this boyfriend out there and they never even interviewed him? That seems out of character for Box even if he was mailing it in during his last month on the job.

Also, I think it's pretty ridiculous to think they could actually put Ray on trial after they tried Nasir. You get one shot to pick your killer. Ray wouldn't even need to put on a defense. His attorney could simply point out that if having put another man on trial for the crime isn't reasonable doubt, what the fuck is?

The cat storyline just gives us a little insight to Stone wanting to let go of all of his frustrations with his life and just allow himself to care about others again.
His clients only call when they need something, his kid and ex don't want anything to do with him, and people think he is a laughing stock hack lawyer. The
cat ( like dogs to a larger extent ), gives him unconditional love and it takes a while to let down his guard. I thought that was a nice moment that the cat
now has free reign of the house and Stone just deals with it.

I like your ideas of making this an ongoing series. I'm not sure if you continue to call it The Night Of but as I have stated, I really think that HBO can do
well with these one season 6-10 episode stories. Of course this is all what we wanted after True Detective and look how that turned out. We must be
careful what we wish for. in the end it comes down to really good script writing in my opinion. HBO has good directors and plenty of good actors waiting
to jump in.

P.S. Did anyone else notice that the stepdad of the girl that was killed was actually Mickey Doyle from Boardwalk Empire?

I re-watched the finale last night because I had a pretty good buzz on Sunday night. I liked it even more watching it a second time. Nas seemed genuinely sad he didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Freddy. That shot were Nas turns around and sees him hitting the heavy bag all alone was, dare I say...touching?

The more I think about it the more upset I am on Naz's behalf. His whole life is ruined. Someone was stabbed 22 times and the only drop of blood on the suspect is some on the palm of his hand?? Do they think he cleaned everything up EXCEPT the blood on his hand? Idiotic. I think stabbing someone 22 times would leave a little more blood spatter... Where's Dexter?

Box just shit the bed with the whole investigation.

does HBO contract actors/actresses like studios used to (still do?)?

noticed nucky's brother is the husband of kenny power's ex-wife in vice principals.

I don't know how it works honestly but they do seem to like to use quite a few of the same actors in various different projects.

I liked the show enough to watch all eight episodes...albeit "on demand" & using the fast-forward button at times. One thought I had during the many court room scenes, was that I personally got more enjoyment from My Cousin Vinny courtroom scenes than I did from this show. Guess I was looking for that "gotcha" moment one way or another,...and that never happened. This show was more realistic I guess.

Was good enough IMO.

Was the prosecutor actually a woman? I kept waiting for the big reveal to be that she was a tranny.
