Aside from the inherent randomness in baseball playoffs, what worries you about the Cubs make-up for a playoff run? Bullpen? Lineup? Heyward? Maddon wearing a coat in October?

I don't know about that... how are the Cubs demonstrably different than last year? Lackey, Heyward, and Zobrist? Do those three really scream "we're over the hump now"?

Aren't they expected to be several wins better than last year? Bryant is also way better than last year(although Arrieta is significantly worse so that may even out). I dunno. I don't follow all of MLB that closely. They just seem unstoppable.

it doesn't even have to be a Cubs collapse, it could be a "societal collapse." indeed, if there's some kind of "civil unrest" leading up to election day where more and more people are losing their shit over BLM and/or "we're not going to let people elect trump!" then you end up with society crumbling into martial law where the elections get (indefinitely?) postponed.... and then yeah good luck having your cubs' march to the world series if all this shit is going down.

Well, their record in the second half last year (I think) was pretty much the same rate they've won at this year. Had they had the second half team all year, they would have had a similar record as this year.

Probably the matchups. They probably end up playing the winner of St. Louis and San Francisco. You have to win 3 out of 5 and at least two of those could be Bumgarner. If the Cubs win that series they face either Los Angeles or Washington. The Dodgers seem to be solid at home. Washington has some decent pitchers. If they make it to the World Series it's probably going to be probably Boston or Cleveland. The playoffs can be totally random, so the starting pitching has to be solid and you hope the bullpen guys can return before the playoffs.

If it comes right down to it, I'm not worried. Fuck it. I'm sick of being scared. Bumgarner can win his two games and be brilliant doing so. He cant pitch in 4 of them. The winning franchises don't worry about clutch hitting and that bullshit. The postseason will make these guys into clutch heroes. Jeter didn't become "clutch" overnight... He got that rep because he got to play in the playoffs all the damn time. Bring on these other teams.
