An interesting conversation between the two. I think it was Baldy who chimed in making fun of ranger for having a male roommate. At which Ranger said "I make SCORE money, I need a roommate." To Which Bernstein said, "I make SCORE money and I'm happy with it.". Ya know, kind of rubbing it in Rangers's face that he's rich while Ranger is poor. To which Ranger said "Well, yeah, you do, but most of us at the SCORE don't."

But at Ranger's point, how much does he think an update boy should make? Millions? I mean it's a 4 or 5 hour shift where you report news that you read on twitter every half hour. You do the update, do nothing for 20 minutes, see if anything happened, then do another update. Mostly it's the same copy. Ranger is probably watching porn in the down time. Or texting hot weather women in town to see if they'll date him. Or hitting on CBS women in the building, which Bernstein has actually said Ranger does. We're not talking about a stressful or complicated job where a fuck up would cost the company.

Stressful or complicated jobs are the ones that pay more money, Ranger. Most people have that in their line of work. Producers and update boys at the Score have no stress nor is their job complicated. Nothing they do wrong will cost the Score anything. Not the case in most jobs. Which is fine. But when I hear these guys bitch about their money I laugh.

Plus Ranger does the updates like he's too cool for it. Where he talks to Bernstein and laughs for an hour about nonsense before he finishes.

I don't understand the last two posts.

If it's just a "Fuck You, Beardown" fine. I'm used to that. That's what you guys do. But I thought I made some good points

He's probably not getting that WhiteSox money, anymore.

BD,
I will reply to your post. Bernstein is a major asshole who needs to be smacked in the face. I would never insult a fellow employee about their salary. Who does shit like that?

Yeah Bernsie is a pud. I am not sure what this was all about but before I stopped listening yesterday Ranger and later Drinky were all over Dan and Barry about their cargo shorts. Also, going hard on how bad they look in general. Maybe this was a continuation of that or a ribbing for revenge?

Bernstein's wife probably wants Rongey's "benefit package".

I don't think it's a problem to have a roommate if you are single and want to live in the city. The rent is too damn high!

Anyway, Rongey should have a second job. There is no reason he shouldn't be able to make 70K if he hustles a little. Updates probably pay 50 and are done every day at a predictable time. Go be a waiter or bartender or realtor or some other job that has non traditional hours.

Bernstein and Baldy McGrindy were both being a dicks.

Ranger (a giant Caller Bob himself) was correct in criticizing their choice of wearing cargo pants.

No chance updates pay 50k

I don't think Ranger even makes 50k. Cuz I don't think he's full time. He doesn't do 5 days a week. Especially with the Cubs playing every day.

I think Bernfield is now the permanent update guy in the mornings. Julie has become the permanent guy for Goff and Spiegel.

But in the afternoons they have a bunch of different guys. Shep, Z-pack, Rodewald and Rongey split it up. I think Rongey does nights when the cubs don't play.

I thought Offman was making 75K at his peak and that was years ago

When George was whacked years ago, he was at $85kish plus an incredibly shitty benefit package.

He wasn't whacked, was he? Didn't he make the ill-advised decision to join the Webio?

It's been a long time and my memory may be off. If he wasn't whacked, he knew his days were numbered. Everyone in the building knew it as well.

I remember some talk here (maybe even via Bernstein himself on the air, which would make sense) that CBS bosses were kind of relieved that the whole Webio thing happened when it did because so many of the people who left were slated for a bloodbath anyway. I think Fred Huebner was the only old-line Score guy who stuck around long enough to get fired. (Maybe Mike Bloomberg disappeared around this time as well. Who would know?) But George and Jesse were probably making more money than anyone could justify to the bean-counters, and a bunch of those producers who left with them were redundant, so you figure they were all doomed when the economy went to shit.

The Score also lost Doug and OB to Webio in name only, but then brought them right back in time for the next Bears season as if the whole thing never happened.

that was the case for Webby. He left because he knew he was done at the Score.

My memory is a little fuzzy (stop yourself) on this but wasn't the Doug and OB movement the result of their great agent, Be Be North?

I don't remember whether Be was their agent, but their departure was definitely about loyalty to North, so that must have been it. I also don't remember whether Doug and OB ever appeared on Webio. They may not have.

Dan is acting like Rongey is a knuckle dragger for wearing a Bears hat.

So, you're wearing...sports...logo...clothing?

I don't get his point. He is in the studio not a presser or interview.

I've seen pics of Goff wearing a Sox hat. I don't think I've ever heard Bernstein scold him for doing so.

Oh wait. I know why. Goff is black. So Deerfield Dan probably thinks it's a "gang thing" when Goff wears a Sox hat. Not an "I'm a fan boy" thing like it is for white Ranger. Fuckin' Bernstein.

Wasn't George also doing updates full time, like 8-5?
