Its impossible to abolish the police in our culture. Our society is based on hierarchy and as long as that is the case, the military needs to protect the rich and the investigative and local police services need to make sure that the middle class doesn't steal from the rich illegally and that the lower class works hard at building things for the rich. You would need a different social structure to abolish the police.

Cool. My car is 10 years old. The AC doesn't work and it's dripping fluid on to my foot under the steering wheel. Can I get a new/used car?

It's Swedish. They think it's the compressor.

I tried to talk mr spaulding into having it fixed but it would be about 1200-1400. It needed a new starter a year or so ago. He doesn't want to keep putting money into it and would rather have us in a more reliable car since he's not always here. I can usually cope with home repairs but cars suck. It's a pain, I have to depend on others, it screws up everything, and I have no clue what the mechanic is talking about. Car issues are the worst.

Volvo from the late 90's to until recently = Ford. Do never buy anything Ford related. When you think about maybe buying some Ford product, recall that the Ford family owns and operates the Detroit Lions football club.

Ford bought Volvo in 1999, sold it in 2010:

I had a mustang that lasted about 12 years and 150k on it. It was a great car. I didn't know Ford owned Volvo. What do you think I should look at, Hussra?

I don't remember protecting the American rich from the middle class in Afghanistan. Stopping some dudes in man dresses riding motorbikes trying to blow up a multi million dollar overpriced Haliburton monstrosity yes, but not the middle class. I also have never worked domestically off post in the uniform enforcing the will of the rich. Is there a secret military I wasn't invited to?

I guess it's fine. When people say IMU is just young and immature and I say no he's a dick, I can pinpoint a time and say no, he really is just a dick. I could start following somebodys around with unwanted suggestive posts hoping they'll apply some sort of social pressure or I could just start being (more) of an asshole, I guess.

The Government and military need to protect the interests of foreign investment. For Afghanistan, the military was assuring territorial protection of the US rich. They also took a step further to protect the interest of foreign oil investments. And who fights our wars? Are the rich fighting them? Of course they aren't.

2007-2008 Chrysler Pacifica is a Mercedes "under the hood" so to speak. Should be able to find one under 100K miles/still under warranty for under $10K. Good vehicle for driving around running errands and schlepping kids to school/practice; very safe and roomy, but not an awful mini-van.

prolly not the best choice if your daily routine includes a long commute, not great on gas mileage.

Buick is an exception to the rule of American cars being crap quality. They have a few cross-over type vehicles--Enclave being the best of them. Very safe car, as testified by this 3 car accident in which the only person who didn't need to go to the hospital was the 84 year old piloting the Enclave:

http://wishtv.com/2016/08/09/serious-cr ... n-co-line/

2012 Enclaves prolly run ~$20K

You seem to take it personally whenever I talk about the fact that American society is built on acquisition and advertising. We all live in that society. I wouldn't expect any of us to be immune to the desire to acquire stuff. I'm simply asking the question, "Is this the best possible society we could have?" BRick seems to think so. Or at least he thinks it's fine. There are a lot of people who aren't doing as well as we are though. Some of them would love to have a ten year old car, if only to sleep in.

You mentioned in another post that your family prefers to "do things" rather than buy stuff. I definitely think experiences are more valuable than possessions. Experiences are about community. Gathering possessions in a suburban home is the opposite of that.

Community is overrated. Why should I have a desire to associate or befriend people just because they live near me?

In fact.. why are we judging which lifestyles are superior to others? This quite simply should be 100% up to the individual.

Where is FF to tell you to let people live their lives.

It's just a leak? Call the car manufacturer. They should walk you through how to fix it.

Not really. They were part of the PAG, but had their own platforms and powertrains. The S80 platform was actually used in Ford products and a re-egineered version is still in use today.

As for the Pacifica, it was "co-engineered" with MB, but it's anyone's guess what that even means. Under the hood it had the Chrysler 4.0L SOHC which was an enlarged 3.5L, the 6 speed was based on a Chrysler 4-speed.
And anyways, MB isn't something you'd look to for reliabilty, especially in the early-mid 2000's. I would say MB did the destroying in that relationship. But I firstly blame Bob Eaton for that.

I kinda agree with IMU. I'll speak or give you a hand if needed but I don't need to be your friend.

The block I grew up on was kinda like the one JORR described. It wasn't a place to do ANYTHING wrong.

You're describing any community though. There are people you want to be friends with and those you simply tolerate. This message board is a good example. And seriously, it's kind of amusing to hear IMU, one of the biggest extroverts I've ever met, piss on community.
