Pretty sure your right to invoke your 5th amendment privilege against self-incrimination applies to/supersedes civil proceedings and civil discovery. Regardless of whether or not there's an extant criminal proceeding against D-Rose with this particular plaintiff, most of his answers should've been:

"Based on the advice of counsel, I assert my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the United States
Constitution and respectfully decline to answer the question."

other than basic fact questions and likely financial discovery questions. anything about the night in question or D-Rose's relationship with this particular plaintiff? 5th amendment.

that's interesting. absent privilege or the 5th amendment thing, I think typically you can not not answer questions in a civil discovery deposition? PittMike's "i don't know" "i can't recall" works tho. could've been scope but scope is pretty broadly defined during discovery, anything potentially leading to relevant testimony/evidence. typically lawyers just note objections and the person being deposed still answers--anything not covered by privilege or the 5th amendment thing. I guess if you refuse to answer and the other side's attorney doesn't press it
