Did the Missouri protest thread get deleted? Couldn't find it using search. That was a solid thread.

Anyway, Harambe jokes are now off limits I guess.

None of the Harambe memes are negative, anyway. This is all quite dumb.

Isn't all the Harambe stuff just bros drinking and shouting Saturday's are for the boys while wearing RIP Harambe shirts? I don't think any of it is negative beyond the fact that they are mocking people caring about a gorilla in the first place.

UMass offers "defined residential communities" (DRP), where students of the same race can all live together.

So...separate but equal?

"Defined Residential Communities" sound like what college is supposed to both get you away from and educate you against.

Isn't associating the gorilla with the "African American community" a racist act?

I don't think so, given the context.

Quote:
“’Harambe’ is actually a Swahili word, which stands for ‘the point where people pull together.’ It has very positive connotations, but recent social media has been misrepresenting it,” the RAs write. “The floor has been in existence for many years, so any negative remarks regarding Harambe will be seen as a direct attack to our campus’ African-American community.”

I like Swahili because everything is like "'ngtumbe' is the Swahili word meaning 'enough for all the members of the group to be satisfied.'" It's a more efficient German.

I thought the portrayal of safe spaces as the arbitrary restriction of speech was an evil caricature that doesn't really happen on college campuses?

Also, university-sponsored segregation? Is that even legal?

Pay 20 grand a year to come live with all the same people as you and never get exposed to different cultures/religions/people. What could go wrong when you enter the workforce?

Next thing you know, the campus Nazis will have their own stalag right on the quad.

An all-black floor at a Massachusetts school, gotta wonder whose idea that was.

Buffalo Grove and Deerfield are "defined residential communities," too, I suppose.

I like how this board can't agree on anything except that Julie DiCaro, microaggressions, and safe spaces are all awful things.

When they recorded "We Are The World" Stevie Wonder wanted to sing his verse in Swahili. Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson said, "Bro, the people that are starving don't speak Swahili" and refused to let him do it. Stevie then pouted throughout the recording.

Also, I don't think all members of a group can ever really be satisfied. Some people will always want one more big screen. I suggested to a Republican friend that a person should only be allowed twice as many cars as he can drive at once, i.e. two. He argued vociferously for Jay Leno's right to buy another dozen automobiles. This is a guy who is struggling to maintain one minivan.

Love the Stevie Wonder story. Can't even imagine the in-fighting with all of those egos performing together. Bruce was so over the top in that song.

I thought Prince sat out over some spat.

SNL did a funny bit later of him singing "I am the World."
