Unless there's an injury, how can you put Montero on the post-season roster?

His defense has fallen off so much this year that he's a liability out there. Cub pitchers don't hold runners too well to begin with, but if you pair that with Miguel's arm, man, it could be quite costly come playoff time.

That Hammel is such a caring feller. He's letting all them Brewers get a mark on the box score. Real little league sportsmanship right there.

I was going to say maybe the Brewers need a couple up under the chin as they run with impunity whenever they play the Cub. Montero is an unmitigated disaster defensively for sure. Can't give teams automatic doubles in the payoffs . Heard he'll probably catch Pilates boy in the playoffs though.

much as I don't understand Heyward's failings, I can't understand why Montero fell off so quickly on hitting. He looked so much better last year.

He's actually hit well over his past week or two, but his defensive problems have continued. But don't get me wrong, I don't trust that he would hit in the playoffs and I would not want him on the playoff roster.

He's only 33 but he's caught an awful lot of innings over the years. Some guys just seem to fall of a cliff when there nearing the end I guess. And even with his bat disappearing, he'd still be quite valuable if his defense were up to snuff. Yes he still frames pitches pretty well but he can't throw anymore and balls seem to get past him quite frequently these days.

That's concerning.

Anybody with decent speed who reaches first against Jake will stand a pretty good chance of reaching second within a few pitches.

Lots of times last season he pulled both Hammel and Hendricks early in games, where you could tell each was unhappy about getting the hook frequently. This year the leash for them seemed to get longer, but tonight Joe kinda borrowed Derrik Rose's sex belt and slapped it on Hammel and did the Rizzo hip thrust.

It makes it easier to justify not having him on the playoff roster, if he gets beat around a couple times like tonight.
