The point is, the current methods of policing clearly aren't working very well. Your analogy would be better if your toilet was shooting your guests in the back a couple times a year.

Why aren't they? Murders and violent crimes are down by nearly 60% from where they were in the early 90's. Don't the police get some credit for that?

Are they really down? Or are they just classified as something besides "murder"? Also, the medical treatment is far better than it was 25 years ago. What may have been a murder in 1992 is now just some guy maimed for life. Crime statistics are not to be trusted.

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magaz ... ime-rates/

Crime stats are down nationwide. It is not just shootings and murders. Besides, it's unlikely that Technology has cut murders down by 60%. If we believe violent crime stats are false, we should base reforms on how people feel?

I'm sure it's MANY things combined that have contributed to the dramatic decrease in crime and murders nationwide.

Top cop after violent holiday weekend: 'It's not a police issue, it's a society issue'

After another violent holiday weekend, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Tuesday his department is doing all it can to combat violence rooted in "impoverished neighborhoods" where "people without hope do these kinds of things."

"It's not a police issue, it's a society issue," Johnson told reporters outside police headquarters after a long weekend that saw 65 people shot, 13 of them fatally.

Getting rid of the cops will make it all better...

I doubt it would make it worse. People would likely accept more responsibility. There's too much trust in government.

 No way you truly believe this. How does one accept more responsibility when those causing the carnage have no responsibility? Those committing heinous acts benefit from lawlessness. GenPop is not going to arm themselves to defend against what is going on right now. Shit, most folks can't afford the firepower. Most folks cannot get their kids into job programs (pick your reasoning) to keep them out of harm's way.

Please provide additional explanation how this additional responsibility is going to work.

I can accept a lack of trust in government. I cannot accept a lack of government benefits those that are most at risk. I have no solution, or I would provide it to be pilloried by all.

Edit--It is not just gangs for those with racial bias. MANY ethnic groups have significant mob activity who would have a field day if there were no government agency to at least knock them back a peg no and then. In terms of city history, I wonder what year we would find ourselves living in? Pre or post Haymarket? With automatic weapons, lightening communication and ease of travel within the U.S. and abroad.

There weren't always police forces, you know. People didn't rely on them. I don't think they do as much as you think anyway. They largely exist to create revenue.

I don't believe you can honestly look at Chicago and say it would benefit from no police force. I guess maybe you can. Fiefdoms will sprout up with the strongest crews demanding payment for security. Some will be havens of ill repute, and some will not. Cicero on steroids sounds nice. I'll work to get my daughter too or tree dances a nite on the main stage and life is good.

And this is what is happening now in some parts of the city. With street gangs controlling the fiefdoms.

It's a troll job. And not very well thought out either.

There's a big demographic shift- out of Wicker Park and into Menard and Dixon.

Well, for Chicago at least you have the housing voucher movement and displacement of "Those Area's" to the surrounding countryside. The "issue" at least in Chicago was really resolved as much as it was scattered to the wind

Makes a call to"Abolish the Police".

Uses a town with a police force as an example of his theory.

This is the greatest troll thread I have ever seen.

You are a King amongst men, JoRR. 13 pages of nonsense discourse for the sake of board traffic.

Seriously, I am impressed.

Washington D.C. has about 66 officers per 10,000 residents. Irvine, CA has about 8 per 10,000. Which one looks more like "anarchy"?

You gonna post stupid GIFs or give an intelligent explanation? It's been suggested here that a lack of police means "anarchy". The above stat is real, so how could that be true?

If we abolish the police and return to neighborhood patrols, do the patrols have power to arrest people?

How does the judicial system work in this new world?

Do we have a trial in Shinnicks?

Elk Grove has 60 patrol offices. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016 ... 160909425/

That certainly seems excessive. I would have to assume that the the vast majority of their time is spent writing tickets. It's like paying tribute to a gang. How many violent crimes are occurring everyday in Elk Grove?

Nope. I ain't that stupid. There's no all-encompassing solution, as you well know. That's why we need the cops. Even the most stable neighborhoods need them. As I said earlier (or meant to say), cops do a lot more than policing. They resolve disputes and document them. Every neighborhood (dysfunctional, stable, somewhere in between) needs that.

JORR pulls up in one of his Mercedes and speaks to the masses about the poor distribution of wealth in the US.

With a straight face too.
