West Loop and Greektown redeveloping into Lincoln Park South. Motorola, McD's both moving office-workers into that area as well.

New hotel I believe going in the area too. Crowne Plaza on Halsted had that area on lock.

Parthenon, restaurant that caught on fire a few years back and Gyro joint on Jackson and Halsted (after hrs) were my spots back in the day. That gyro joint used to produce it's fair share of characters. Going back even further there was a spot next to the gyro joint near the parking lot which used to throw parties. Saw Del the Funky Homo Sapien in there on hip hop night during the mid 90's.

I remember seeing one of my former students in there. It was about 3 in the morning and I heard some guy threatening a drug addict that owed him about 30 dollars. My former student was from further West and a bit of a loud mouth. Hadn't seen him in years but for some reason I recognized the voice. When I saw it was him I told him his bond money for bearing the dope fiends ass would be more than thirty dollars and the guys from the Racine district were not going to play with him. Probably be better to catch the guy in the hood. He agreed with me and left the dude alone for the moment. That was always one of my go to after hr weekend spots.

Loved Greektown Gyro's. Took some folks there for 'last rights' before rehab stints a couple of times. It was very good food late night, and very good food in daylight. Kind of shocked me. It had some relationship with the bar just North at some point. I didn't remember it always being that way.

Greektown Gyros, I got knocked out cold by the bartender at the bar adjoining it one time. Came to on the floor. George. He runs a bar on Damen and 21st called The Barrel now. Good guy. Solid selection of craft/micro brews at his new place, the Barrel; they get semi-exclusive/early-release taps from Revolution every so often. But always have a good selection of micros on draft. Not far from Riot Fest.

Costas around the corner on Van Buren (across from Giordano's) burnt down about six years back. Had to be for insurance. they claimed grease fire in the kitchen; but the way it burnt completely, they must've trailed grease throughout the building to get the whole thing to go up like that.

for gyros and shish ka-bob/ greek chicken plates, the small place on Jackson next to subway, Zeus, has better food and better prices than Mr Greek. Owner claims to grow his own tomatoes on the roof but I've seen him buying crates of em off the back of trucks from Mexican vendors. maybe he mixes in his own when in season.

yeah when i came into this thread i was gonna say "wasn't this the place that had the flaming cheese or whatever?" -- indeed, when i loaded up the link it said that this place was the "home of the flaming sargnani(sp/whatever)" and thus yeah, this is the place i thought it was.

the only time i ever went there was UIC orientation circa summer 1998 when they took our group to the place, they did the flaming cheese, and we all had a meal on UIC/whoever. it was.... uhhhh.... "en fuego" - Dan Patrick. otherwise, whenever i'm in greektown i'm only going to mr. greek gyros cuz that's just how i roll (and they owe me a fuckin gyros shirt! grecian delight > kronos til the day i die yo! #PrideOfElkGrove you know?)
