Hillary only had more votes because people in Michigan couldn't vote for Obama.

Crooked Hillary supporters.

Hilllary would've still had more votes than Obama. What, you think if they'd had Obama on the ballot Hillary would've polled 0 votes in Michigan? wtf.
The exit polls in Michigan showed 46% for Hillary, 35% for Obama, 12% for John Edwards that year (Crazy Joe Biden and Smokin' Bill Richardson also polled a few %)--had all been on the ballot. I think they ended up assigning delegates from Michigan to Clinton, Obama and Edwards based on those percentages at the convention. This is still before the press got around to admitting Edwards was lying through his teeth about his affair and love-child. one of the weird side-stories of 2008. everyone in the media knew Edwards had an affair but no on would admit it (Except National Enquirer, which also published details of the Lewinsky scandal first? at least among the printed press). So the press stood around blankly drooling on their notepads while Edwards told them with a straight face that one of his campaign staffers was the father of his love-child. and the campaign staffer went along with it. fucking weird. Anthony Weiner has nothing on John Edwards. Edwards was having his campaign staff steal shitty diapers for DNA tests and paying off doctors to fake the DNA test when the results came back that it was Edwards kid

it wasn't until Obama was rumored to be considering Edwards for the VP slot that the press piped up and said "hold on, hold on, there's something we've known about John Edwards for the last year but didn't feel like saying anything about til now"

very weird story in American politics, press's complicity with politicians, silent complicity in this case, and politicians being fucking weirdos. wasn't reported on that much and isn't brought up much since then cuz it makes the press look like dolts who'll go along with anything a politician says, until confronted with overwhelming, indisputable evidence to the contrary:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Edwa ... tal_affair

twitter had barely started then. late 2006 = twitter launch, but they didn't really start to gain traction outside tech users til late 2008. nowadays with twitter, i don't think John Edwards weird love-child story gets drug out for a year or even years the way it did.

Huh?

If you don't count the votes Hillary got in Michigan then Obama has a higher popular vote in the 2008 Democratic primary. I don't understand what your comment means.

Why wouldn't you count cast votes? You some sort of commie-pinko-fascist?

If Obama doesn't voluntarily pull out of Michigan and he's on the ballot, he still doesn't get as many votes as Hillary. Pretty simple concept.
You gonna blame her when Edwards and Obama pulled out of Michigan voluntarily?

They ended up giving Hillary, Obama and Edwards delegates from Michigan anyhow. the reason Obama and Edwards voluntarily decided to pull out of Michigan is Michigan was fucking with their "Iowa first strategy, have a strong showing in Iowa, and people will abandon Hillary" Edwards had spent something like the last 3 years basically living in Iowa, campaigning everyday (when he wasn't making love-childers). and Obama liked campaigning in Iowa cuz it was right next door to his home state. Their strategy worked. At least for Obama.

Iowa eventually moved their caucus in 2008 from the day before Michigan's to the first week of January. But the other candidates still didn't like Michigan being that early in the process. Bigger state, requires more money to compete in.

I don't think you understand.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/democratic_vote_count.html

Popular Vote Total Obama:17,535,458 48.1% Clinton:17,493,836 48.0% Obama +41,622 +0.1%
Popular Vote (w/MI)** Obama:17,535,458 47.4% Clinton:17,822,145 48.1% Clinton +286,687 +0.8%

Notice how Obama has the same vote total with or without Michigan but Clinton gains about about 330,000 votes with Michigan.

I guess you could argue that Obama would not have gotten enough votes but we know what happened with the rest of the country. We don't really know what would have happened in Michigan.

How could Obama and Edwards have the same vote totals if they hadn't voluntarily taken themselves off the ballot in Michigan? That's insane. Or at least really bad math.
They'd have received votes in Michigan, if they had not voluntarily withdrawn from the Michigan primary. How many votes? Not as many as Hillary received; which is prolly why they took themselves out of contention in Michigan. Image

We don't really know how much they would have gotten. Even when not on the ballot "Uncommitted" only lost by 100k votes to her and that was with no campaigning and obviously some people voting for the only person on the ballot.

There was a state where Obama could not receive votes for whatever reason. Counting the votes that Hillary got there is insanity.

Yes, counting votes cast is nuts. We should cut that shit out.

Obama couldn't receive votes in that state because he voluntarily withdrew. Didn't like a large pop state that early in the proceedings. Can't blame em.

maybe hillary should've voluntarily withdrawn from all those states she lost to bernie. :D

No. They both withdrew because Michigan held it's primary before Iowa.

No matter what the reasoning though, it is insane to count votes for Hillary in a state where Obama could receive 0.

we're in agreement, dude, counting votes be bad. i'm sure the people who voted will be glad to hear they wasted their time going to the polls and voting. maybe if Trump wins, he'll pick his successor via a reality TV show, "Presidential Apprentice" "Who Wants To Be The Next President" or "Jeopardy: Next President Tourney" might not be bad.

Nifty diversion away from Gary Johnson making an ass of himself. Switching from google to whatever really doesn't impact much.

Fair enough. Hillary lost the 2008 election to Obama 69,498,516 to 0 then.

I'm not concerned that a candidate doesn't know a specific city in Syria. I'm more concerned about our own country. If he wasn't aware of say, Cincinnati, then I would be very nervous.

I thought exactly the same thing. I also think it wouldn't matter one bit to the people that support him. It would be written off as a big media conspiracy to make him look stupid.

I really don't want either of these Jamokes to win but I do want Trump to win just to see the melt down from the left especially the people here on the board.

You'd most likely get to see a global nucular meltdown as soon as some foreign leader called him a name.

both the Republican nominee and the Democrat nominee started getting regular national security/ foreign affairs hot spot security briefings from people in Obama's Administration after their respective conventions. Given the high-profile of Syria/Aleppo over the last month, unlikely Trump hasn't been briefed on it.

In addition to those briefings, if you're running for President, you should have someone on staff briefing you daily on these issues--a daily AM domestic policy briefing and a daily AM foreign policy briefing, among others. And I think Trump did, but the guy might've quit cuz he was on the Trump "you'll get paid after the election plan" and dude realized he'd never get paid-back if Trump loses. Best scenario for those folks being a job in the Administration if Trump wins--like Trump's really gonna fork over back-pay

you want back-pay for all those weeks you worked for free AND a job? fine. how about neither.
