It's not pronounced Jewel. You don't say, "I'm going down to Jewel to get some pop". If you've lived in Chicago you say, "I'm going down to the Jewels to get some pop".

Bunch of fucking poseurs in here.

First time I've ever agreed with your post...it's a damn right as a Chicagoan to call it "Da Jewels". You can always tell a transplant who goes even further to call it "Jewel-Osco".

Born at Michael Reese Hospital.

Brief 24 year stay in the suburbs soon after and then have been living in Chicago proper since 1995.

funny you say that, in 1995 I was living in the basement apartment of this old polish lady and her daughter. They were always talking about going out to the Jewels.

So its pollacks and spmacks if you get my drift.

This place was the absolute worst. I lived down the street, and it was on my way home from work...the inside smelled like what I can only assume is diseased Russian taint. It was dirty as fuck in there too...not an optimal option to purchase fresh products...I used to go to the Caputo on Rand a lot, though...

I don't live too far from Eurofresh. Been there a handful of times. It's good for a one-off, obscure ingredient, but I wouldn't shop there regularly. Mariano's is the goods.
