And 20% is the best shot of any team.

The fact that the Cubs have to win three rounds in a row is daunting. It would be daunting for any team. There is a reason the regular season is 162 games long. But there is no team I'd rather take in this year's postseason than the Cubs.

Yup. Other teams don't have to deal with a curse too like we do.

No I didn't.

I believe I did some stuff ironically about how the Cardinals were the best team because they won more regular season games in the context of the "playoffs are a crap shoot" discussion.

Yes, they are certainly the favorites. But because it's baseball, there is still only a 20% chance.

And that is fine. It still doesn't mean a specific team or teams scare me.

That's fair. I took it more as "I know we're going to mow down these teams."

The Nationals and Royals have just as good of a chance to win it all as the Cubs do.

If you don't want the Nationals to lose before they face the Cubs then you are crazy.

My Mom told me the other day that she took off of work for the entire World Series.

We don't have a chance.

Perhaps beheading her will reverse the damage she has caused.

Hmmm...

http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx

According to fangraphs, there are 4 or 5 teams who all have similar odds

Why? The Nats have a dumbass skipper and they are minus Strasburg ..the Mets kicked the shit out of us last year and have a proven skipper.. I'd rather face the the Nat's than Mets or L.A.

The Nationals are the team I'm least scared of (scared of Murphy though).

The Mets were the team I was the least scared of last season and that worked out well for us.

The Royals aren't even in the postseason. There are five teams in front of them for even the last Wild Card spot.

Do you even baseball?

It would be funnier if the Cubs lost to the Mets again, but I have a feeling the Dodgers will be the team that vanquishes them this year.

Huh? I didn't know the postseason started tomorrow. I guess I don't baseball.

You truly don't if you think the Royals can hop over 5 teams in 3 weeks.

I'm worried in the general sense that sports are strange and the best team doesn't always win. No team scares me in particular. The Cubs are the best team in baseball this year.
This is one of the problems with using full season results. In the last 30 games the Cubs have been roughly equal to at least 5 other teams. They got off to a historical start but clearly they aren't THAT good.

The Cubs are 20-10 in their last 30. 2nd best in MLB.

How much better could a baseball teams reasonably be?

So are 5 other teams(within a game).

This is in reference to everyone acting like the Cubs are clearly better than every other team in baseball.

team with the best regular season W-L record has won the World Series only twice, i think, in the last 35 years. And both were Yankee teams. Red Sox tied the Cardinals for best record one of their championship seasons. winning makes teams comfortable and they lose their competitive edge. wild card has made the odds of the team with the best regular season record winning the world series even greater. but even before the wild card only something like 1 in 4 world series was won by the team with the best record.

Red Sox beating Cubs in the World Series would be the most schadenfreude-ic way for the Cubs to lose. Last team to break an almost century championship drought; David Ross's former team; Lester and Lackey's old beer and chicken clubhouse. They don't have Manny in the lineup anymore. But since Theo's no longer Boston's GM, they are still able to win the World Series without relying on back to back roided up cheaters in the middle of the lineup.

Number of World Series Theo teams won without Manny and Ortiz:

0 (zero)

Former-manager-for-Theo Francona and Cleveland would also be noteworthy. Cleveland's World Series drought is 2nd only to the Cubs in duration. And the Cavs won the NBA thing, so maybe it's Cleveland's year....at least tickets for the games in Cleveland would be easy to come by.
