Really? There isn't one Hall of Famer in this Cub rotation. Atlanta had three.

Well, not yet. They're still playing, dummy.

And which one do you think might have a reasonable chance to make it in?

Arrieta and Lester are locks. Hendricks has a good chance. If the Cubs wind up with the best regular season this year, Lackey has a good chance, too. Hammel is borderline.

 This rotation isn't better than the '64 White Sox.

I didn't know the '64 Sox, but according to Baseball Reference, the Cubs starting rotation will have way more wins than them. Therefore, 2016 Cubs rotation > 1964 Sox rotation.

It absolutely is this season.

That's arguable. Horlen in '64 is better than any Cub this year. I'll take Pizarro and Peters over the next two.

I really doubt the Cub rotation is going to have more than 72 wins.

Jenkins,Hands,Holtzman,Pappas-no 5th starter needed in 1970. When real athletes pitched.

There's also the '54 Indians and the '86 Mets.

Horlen was very good and so was Peters. Pizzaro had a decent season here and there.

He was really good in 1963-64.

Relative to the years they pitched, the Cubs' staff has outperformed them both...and any others. The 1986 Mets aren't really even close to the Cubs, or any of the other teams mentioned.

They already have 62 with 43 games left. I think they'll get 10 in 43 games.

They have that many? They probably will then. I didn't figure the rotation to have so many wins with 76 overall.

61, actually... 60 between the 5 and 1 from Cahill.

Still a lot for 76 overall wins.

I'm thinking of cancelling my cable after the regular season. Playoffs are irrelevant.

Hopefully in the playoffs they can match (or exceed) the production of the 2005 World Series Champions.

They will not meet or exceed a 9-1 playoff record.

Starters didn't go 9-1 did they?

Off the top of my head, Games 2 and 3 of the World Series had relievers get the win.

EDIT: I guess they did. Good work Frank. For some reason I though a reliever got the win in Game 3 of the ALDS.

9 + 2 = 11

Starters went 3-0 against Boston, 4-1 against Anaheim, 2-0 against Houston.

So since you believe wins are the most important starter stat then you would agree that this years cubs is the best starting rotation?

Awful staff according to PWARP. Lackey is their best guy and he's only 35th overall. Terrible.

And no Hank, PWARP is JORR's rough attempt and entering the statistical arena.

Yep. Chris Sale is having one of the greatest years ever. He has given up 18 extra runs due to poor pitch framing. Historic.

This can't be real.

Quintana must lead the league in pBLK then.

You are correct in that "advanced statistics" that no one uses do not count. Baseball Prospectus can try to push whatever they want since they feel left behind by Baseball Reference and Fangraphs. It doesn't mean it will take if the advanced statistics represent nothing and haven't been found to be successful in analyzing past performance or predicting future performance.

You sound a lot more intelligent about advanced statistics if you never talked about advanced statistics.
