you'd hate to waste a spot in the lineup, but can they afford to not have his defensive prowess in the field? the way some of these recent playoff games have been decided with runners getting stranded in scoring position or gunned down...tough calls to make.

Not really. As good a Heyward is in the field, Almora is even better. No, Almora is not the offensive force he should be in another couple years, but I would much prefer to see him at the plate than Heyward and he's a gold glove level defender already. it has to be difficult to admit that signing Heyward was a mistake and benching him indefinitely and leaving him off the playoff roster would shout it from the mountains. but winning a title has to be the only concern. Not admitting mistakes, nor concern over bruised egos.

Maybe someone that knows about baseball, unlike you and I, can help us but I don't think Almora is better than Heyward defensively.

Heyward is the premier defensive RF in the game, and seems like he would do fine in CF. He has in limited appearances.

That being said...Almora is very gifted and he has looked really good in both CF and LF this season. Almora won't ever have the arm Heyward has...and neither has top shelf speed...but Almora does seem to get to everything he should plus more...and then makes the play.

I wonder how many outfield assists Contreras would have every season if played RF. I'm guessing many.

I dunno man, I'm pretty smart ,(,sports wise) I don't don't see much of a difference between Jhey n Almora defensively... Both are plus defenders.. Heyward is worse with the stick and making 16 million more per season.

Look at the production out of every position on the field. Only the pitching position has produced less and they are that far off of him.

If he had body slammed that Cardinal fan, I would have forgiven him for his hitting.

I don't understand how a guy that has done it before can not correct it in 500 ab's. You can do motion analysis up the ass on him and yet they can not fix his completely jacked up swing? I think he is scared to death of being hit again for some reason...its either that or he has no bat speed anymore.

He will hit .300 next season with 22 hr and 78 RBI. Done deal.

Has he ever even hit 22 HR's in a single season? I am not doing the research but I say no.

He hit 27 one year, but that is the anomoly. And he's never hit .300, so yeah... that's not gonna happen.

Watching his swing now I just don't see how this is possible.

Speaking of his swing; Heyward has always had an ugly looking swing for a left handed hitter.

Even with this terrible year, I'm penciling in Heyward next year for something like .260 BA with a .780 OPS ... maybe 17 HR and oodles of doubles.
