I wonder what odds a fella could get betting on both managers getting run in the same game.

Now wait a minute.

I'm not Johnny Baseball but I've watched enough for long enough to think that I know that you cannot, as an umpire, decide that telling your corner infielders and catcher to go talk to a pitcher counts as a mound visit.

Joe West, Don Koharski and Joey Crawford disagree.

They'll tell you whatever the hell they want to.

I was told I was an idiot for even suggesting Kyle Hendricks was the best fifth starter ever. I even called him Maddux lite. But who was right? Me once again.

According to mlb rules, West was wrong as fuck.
Of course this twat never suffers consequences for his bullshit.

Say... you do that goofy umpire pitch calling thingy... I suspect dickmouth changed his strike zone once he ran afoul of Maddon. Any evidence to support that? A couple borderline pitches not called from Chapman.

I honestly though MADDEN was just buying time or something. Couldn't even tell what happened.

This is second-hand information but in the post-game the Cardinals' radio guy allegedly said, "Sheer brilliance by Mike Matheny to steal that no-hitter by forcing Hendricks to bat. Cubs won the game, but being able to avoid the no-hitter should give the Cardinals the momentum and a great chance to win the next two in this series."

So, .... yeah.

Wednesday: 12:45 p.m., ABC-7.
LH Jon Lester (16-4, 2.51) vs. RH Carlos Martinez (14-7, 3.05).

A sweep clinches the division and does big damage to wild card hopes. Unfortunately Hammel starts G2.

Hammel has nice stats, but we know he has been shaky again of late and may well be left out of a playoff rotation. I wouldn't have him on the playoff roster, as I have no reasonable way of knowing he would do well in relief. The matchups on Tuesday and Wednesday are good ones and should make for great games. I cannot predict a sweep on the road, with the Cardinals starting Garcia (who has been good of late) and Martinez, who is their best starter these days. It would be more fun for fans to have them clinch at "The Shrine" against the Brew Crew anyway.

Hammel had 6 good starts to start 2nd half
Then he had a bad one in Col (doesn't count)
Got pulled way early against Dodgers with no chance to pitch thru a few early runs (not on him)
Then he pitched well against Pitt
Pitched poorly against MIL

This is not close to his usual 2nd half swan dive.

Maddon hates Hammel though for some reason. Pulls him in 3rd inning of a game after giving up 3 runs (Joe was practicing his playoff managing I think) but leaves him in way too long to get killed by MIL a week later

I'm not a huge Hammel fan so none of this really bothers me but its interesting

10 starts in second half. 7 good ones.

When I heard Steve Stone say that Hendricks was clean thru 6, I started flipping the Cubs game on a bit.

if there's criticism for Joe, it's certainly his handling of Hammel. It does seem like he hates the guy. Don't get it.
