Pitched poorly against MIL

This is not close to his usual 2nd half swan dive.

Maddon hates Hammel though for some reason. Pulls him in 3rd inning of a game after giving up 3 runs (Joe was practicing his playoff managing I think) but leaves him in way too long to get killed by MIL a week later

I'm not a huge Hammel fan so none of this really bothers me but its interesting

10 starts in second half. 7 good ones.

if there's criticism for Joe, it's certainly his handling of Hammel. It does seem like he hates the guy. Don't get it.

Guess you didn't watch the NLCS last year then? Hammel has had a good year, but he is not a pitcher that can be trusted. You don't have to play games with his emotions because he isn't going to pitch in the playoffs and isn't going to be here next year so like. SHRUG.

It's Jason Hammel night so ... yeah.

Credit where it's due...Hammel has been a completely different pitcher for much of this year. He looked like an out of shape slob last season and he broke down as the season wore on. He's been much better this season with a few clunkers lately...I wouldn't be surprised if he pitches decent the rest of the way.

Let's play a game!

Guess the inning Joe West make it about himself!

I'll go with the bottom of the 7th.

I see where, despite KB's overall BA w/ RISP being fine, prior to that strikeout he was batting .083 w/ the bases loaded ... odd.

Man Russell is just so money with runners on base. It's like he is the anti-Heyward

It's nice that Hammel isn't making Joe have to think about having him on the post-season roster ... that's what you call professional courtesy.

Hammel is a small game ace. Nothing on the line he is fine. Give him a must win game or pressure he cracks like a pretzel.

Ahh Bill Murray, you’ll always be revered around Chicago now, if you weren’t already.

Murray, an avid golfer recently took part in the John Deere Classic Pro-am in the Quad Cities and as usual, offered some fantastic quotes along the way. According to the Quad Cities Times, Murray asked attendees if anyone saw the Cubs sweep the Cardinals in a doubleheader the other day to which one woman replied that she was a Cardinals fan. Murray’s response? “Satan’s messengers on Earth. And then it turns out your team is cheaters, too,’’

Hammel's team option looking shakier and shakier with each passing start.

He will be back. Has like a 8 mil option with 2 mil buyout. Cheap no 5 starter and that is what he is. If they cannot flip him in a deal he will be back again.

As a 5th starter, he's more than acceptable. Very little pitching available, so I can't see them letting him go.

He's done virtually everything they have asked of him this year. His job is to take the mound every 5th day and give them a chance to win. His job ends when the regular season does and I would have to believe he knows that. He will be back for sure next year doing the exact same thing.

Matheny had a good game...pulled Garcia in the 2nd inning with the game already appearing to be on the line, and the Cubs were stymied from that point on.
