It would be appropriate if they clinched not because of a win but because of a Cardinal loss.

  Because the Cards losing is what got the Cubs 93 wins this year.

Brewers, Reds, Padres, Braves and Phillies all had the game plan of intentionally losing this season. The philosophy had become so problematic for competition in the NL that Theo himself encouraged the league to take measures to prevent tanking in the future.

This is a tired conversation. The Cubs are not the best team in baseball simply because a few NL teams "let" them win.

Anyway, I predict a Cubs sweep actually. Relaxed baseball heading into the playoffs. Cubs win 12 of their remaining 17.

One wonders which is ultimately worse for an organization - intentionally losing a lot (teams noted above) or trying your best and losing a lot (take a guess)?

Hey Walt, if the Cub win it all this year, I'll buy you any pastry of your choosing from Weber's Bakery.

Hmm ... was Len just talking about how tomorrow the B-listers are going to be populating the lineup as though it's fait accompli?

It'll be the 1989 Marvell Wynne / Doug Dascenzo lineup all over again.

Goddammit, I would've dropped in today. I'm fishing right now with Hughes blaring in the background. It's glorious, and you'd love it.

Tent city on Darkside's lawn from the beginning of the postseason until the Cubs are out.
