Never say never, but I can't imagine anyone giving Arrieta seven guaranteed years after next season. He should of struck while the iron was hot.

That's what I mean. He and Boras should have taken what they could get. You don't bet on yourself after you have the greatest half in Major League History. Your value can only go down after that. I'm glad the Cubs held off.

Yeah that payroll is going to jump to record levels pretty soon and you can't pay everybody. Jake's financial window with the Cub may have closed.

I don't see Bryant (or Russell) taking an extension, but he's going to have some historic arbitration salary demands. And at some point you're going to have to lock up Hendricks and make good on Rizzo's deal as well as buy some more starting pitching.

On a side note, I think it can't be understated just how huge it is that Braun didn't end up in San Fran or L.A.
