I read he's running a few weeks ago, I bet he's taken some swings in the cage but he couldn't be useful until the WS as a DH...so he's not going to make the roster.

I'll take Cogs over Hayward. Cubs need hitting not the occasional nice catch in the OF.

Isn't Coghlan hitting like .180? Take your meds and grab a nap, jimmy. Try again later.

I know but he can occasionally actually place a ball in the stands or hit the wall.

Hayward should just sub on defense.

Szczur (I don't want Almora and JHey on the same team as they are the same guy right now)
Montgomery (long man)
LaStella (bitch boy makes the team)
Cahill (Hammel is too much of a head case and isn't used to relieving so I want Cahill)
Montero (He doesn't do much but the fucker can draw a walk and generally makes contact however weak it may be)

3B: Bryant
LF: Soler
CF: Fowler, Szczur, Almora

SP: Arrieta, Hendricks, Lester, Lackey

RP: Chapman, Rondon, Strop, Edwards, Montgomery, Cahill, Wood

I need Szczur and Almora so that with a lead in the 8th or 9th inning, my OF is Szczur, Almora, Heyward.

I also want to sit Zobrist (or put him in LF) late in games as well. I need Baez at 2B in late innings.

He's making a strong case to make that roster.

At some point you'd rather just have another arm or a utility guy like Cogz on the team, for the flexibility if nothing else.

Heyward has caught a bunch of shit here for how bad he has been, but honestly I think this board has been light on him.

.228/.300/.318? That's worse than probably a dozen pitchers.

Agreed, Jhey been getting a pass for the most part..he's a likable guy and the team is winning..he can erase all those weak grounders to 2nd base with a big post season ..there's still hope.

You can not put Rondon on this roster. He is not right. He has looked like shit for the 2nd half of the year. He reminds me of bad Marmol. His fastball is straight as straight can be. He is not missing bats. He never strikes anyone out and teams hit a shitload of foul balls off of him. This is exactly how Marmol went out. Lay off the breaking stuff and either walk or hit the shit out of the straight arrow fastball.

I've come around on Rondon, he can't make the PO roster, the guy is awful.

I don't know where he plans on using him but Rondon cannot be in a high leverage situation. I don't know how he could be trusted now.

If they can make a good deal with him, perhaps. Then Montgomery could be in the rotation, but it leaves them with a lack of depth in the event there is an injury, so I think he returns.

I think there's a solid chance that they can get a decent #5 starter to compete with Montgomery a one-year FA deal. So Id rather see them send Jason to an AL team needing an innings eater for three months and then flip in July. Win-win, Cubs get a AA pitcher and get out of the salary, bad team eats innings to help deal with innings caps on young starters, and gets something about the same back.

I believe they will give Montgomery every chance to win a spot in the rotation in spring training. If everyone stays healthy and Montgomery wins the spot, they probably trade Hammel in spring, but not before making sure the staff is healthy and they don't need him. He did win 15 games and pitched a lot of innings, so he should not be undervalued. Especially when there is very little pitching that will be available in free agency this year.

Hammel is a FA after the season, expert.

They aren't going to use a team option just to trade him.

They will absolutely use the team option. With the lack of pitching available, there is no question about it.
