A few random thoughts from recent posts...

* I can't figure out why anybody would suggest Monday was a day that required "basketball friendly" hosts. Seems to me Championship Sunday would have and should have warranted almost all football discussion.

* I don't apologize for our Bulls coverage. It isn't our strongest suit, but our stable of experts -- Stacey King, Bill Wennington, Norm Van Lier -- are willing, warm participants who played the game at its highest level and at least one of them is on every week. Jim Boylan has been on twice since the week we returned from the holidays.

* Many rabbits used for clothing also have been harvested (in the wild) for the meat. I share anybody's conviction that animals should not be killed merely for their skins. I also am not an advocate of "torturing" animals so their flesh is more tender. Both are examples of human arrogance personified. I think I've had veal twice in my life and felt terribly guilty bnoth occasions.

* Eli Manning has played terrific football and deserves the credit he has been receiving. I was wrong.

* Drinky is a man of the people.

* Phil Simms is not a bright man. Jim Nantz does nothing to help him sound otherwise.

* North is not a racist.

* The '08 Cubs ARE a team of destiny.

* We're in the abyss. Now's a good time to send e-mails or make calls to the show regarding movies, music and other "guy talk" topics.

* Time for another "Ask Mac" thread. I'll get to it over the weekend.

This is the one-time when I don't envy your profession, Mac. You guys can't even talk about the Presidential Primaries because this audience would change the station.

The only thing to look forward to is the tournament.

Time to dust off some of Harry's gems that have been left on the production room floor.

I was wondering whether or not anyone else felt that way as I kept losing interest in that game they called Sunday. It was a bad game, but damn if they didn't make it worse.

Perhaps not - I certainly don't know him on a personal level like you do. However, he is without question obsessed with race. He brings it up out of the blue during interviews, focuses on any news story with a racial connotation and adds it to stories where it has no bearing. Beyond that he has frequently exhibited a clear disdain for anyone of Asian or Middle-eastern descent. To North they are all the same. Racist? Maybe. Ignorant? Definitely.

I was thrilled yesterday to hear you mention that we will be hearing Phil Simms caught in broadcast hell on Sunday. I had planned to email the show today on the very soundbyte you're reffering to. Who woulda thunk that telling viewers that the ground cannot cause a fumble would be so difficult.

I have to take you to task there Mackie...Yeah ok, North once spent $10,000 worth of coats and his wife donated them to a predominately black school a few years back, but then he says things like "Luol Deng was raised in a jungle so he should be tougher" and "I'm not a fan of (middle eastern) indians". He doesn't sound like a "Michael Pfleger" type to me...

*basketball is really hard to watch in the Chicago area...

*My High School used to serve veal parmesian every two weeks or so for lunch.
:?:

*Eli Manning has been playing great.......for Eli Manning standards.

*Phil Simms is the dumbest man on television.

*Call of Duty 4 for XBOX 360 is quite possibly the best first person shooter ever.

*Doesn't somebody have to Ask Mac first?

I would say Mike is more ignorant than raciest. He is a street smart guy but not a Educated guy and his up bringing seemed as if racial sensitivity was not a topic at the dinner table. Doesn't make him a bad guy in my book and working with Dan Jiggets would of been pretty bad if he had dislikes for people of color.

I give Mike a ton of credit for becoming who he is and where he came from and I tend to relate to feel good stories and he seems to be one of them.

That is a good thing.

If you think about it a little though, they are have similar agendas. They attack the agendas differently but the agenda is the same.

That's kind of how I read Mike as well.

I think people give him a pass with that excuse. He didn't graduate from High School so that's the reason for his ignorance?

He's 55 years old. You don't need to pass algebra when you're 17 to realize, at 55, it's wrong to call a person China man.

I agree with you Beardown. The thing that really makes me wonder is the frequency with which he spews racially insensitive comments. If it were only once in a while it could be attributed to ignorance. On the other hand I suppose you could argue that it's ignorance when he thinks he's hasn't done anything wrong.

Or he's just playing with you. I'm not too fond of that, either...

Look, do you think when Pappy was a nobody and had a hot dog stand he acted this way in front of his customers?

Do you think when a Chinese man walked into his stand he said "How is my favorite China man?"

No. Because Pappy knew it was wrong to say that. He couldn't afford to say racist things or it would hurt his business.

Now he says it because he thinks it makes for an provocative show. It doesn't. People just think he's an idiot. The numbers indicate that. But he knows what he's doing. Don't ever think he doesn't. He just gets out of it by saying "back in da day it was OK" or "When we'ze was kids..."

I hate the people that give him a pass because he didn't graduate high school. Do you think 2 more years of high school was going to change the finished product we know as Pappy?
